wire connection

Recently bought an used '09 M1000 SP and I'm new to Cat so please excuse my ignorance. Just giving the machine a look over and notice a wire connection that looks wrong. It's located beside the key switch wires on the back of the console and consists of 2 male/female connectors which look like they should actually be connected or are they there for a tether or something else and should be left unconnected Any ideas as to what they are? Thanks..

It is by the steering post but no colors, just black. There are two wires just hanging there with both attached connectors being the same. They consist of a small connector with a male socket and a female post. Something like the small snowmobile trailer used for the lights which are 3 sockets and 1 post, only my connecters only have 1 of each.

look closely, one might be black with a yellow tracer. If they are all black it is ground. My guess is that a cap goes on the end and it tucks in on the steering loop. No connection required.
