Windshield stay or go?

I'm getting ready to do a mesh hood on my GEN II was planning on ditching the eavy gauge pod and headlight assembly. I would like to know how you guys that ride without a windshield like it? What about on those deep pow days? The cold windy ones? Tell me what your experiences are!

I like having one but frequently roll my sled.. I plan on a soft snow roll only if having to do it that way and have been able to keep the same windshield now for two years:beer; I did buy a new sled last year and the windshield only made it for one trip, but I was able to cut it down to a hitler style now so I still have something. I will prolly replace it but if it happens again I wont replace it till next year. Alot of guys I ride with dont have theres on there sleds anymore but I prefer to have one.

Windshieldless...

Currently I run a mesh hood on my Escape.

When I'm in deep powder I don't like it. A windshield helps direct snow over the sides when it comes over the hood-mesh doesn't.

When in wet nasty snow coming back from a day of riding you can hide a bit, tucked down below a windshield...

I have problems keeping heat tape on mine directly above my ceramic coated pipes-probably don't need it, but I'd hate to melt the mesh.

I really liked my acrylic hood from years past and am currently modifying another one with snorkel air and a small windshield and will be selling the mesh hood.

Also, mesh hoods don't like REAL boondocking in the timber...something about branches and mesh... :(

Just my .02

Have fun, go riding

I had a lightweight hood w/ small windshield on my King Cat so I can't comment on going without a windshield, but I did go without the gauges and headlight. I recommend a handlebar mounted gauge of some sort (I had a Racepak), and the Lead Dog helmet light. The Lead Dog is a fantastic product. As bright as any headlight and shines where you are looking. The guys behind me said it was nice to be able to see the red light up high instead of struggling to see the standard tailight down in the snow cloud. I'm going to use it on my M8.

Every time I put a windshield on my edge I break it within 3 rides. The older windshields don't like to flex like the new dragon windshields when you roll them over. I haven't run a windshield on my edge in years. No issues. Yeah it was nice to hide behind on long road rides in on cold windy days, but it is what it is.

i vote no windshield, if you stand up when you ride its just extra weight to carry around.

Thats kinda what I was thinking. I mean I'm 6' 2" and hardly sit down so theres really not much the windsheild is doing for me. And I don't like not having one I can always figure out how to attach one later on.

kill the windshield

I have run without for a few years now, wont go back. i did add hand guards, kinda blocks wind a little. I wear a neck gator now too, seems like the air that used to go up and over hits me in the chest neck area.

Windshields are awesome for the trail. The new windshields don't give any protection any way. When riding in deep powder I would rather not have one. With one, powder hits you in the eyes. Without one, it hits you in the chest. Lose the windshield.

I haven't run one for about 4 years now. Took it off on my XP and off on my M1000, The newer machines look pretty cool without, IMO.

Thanks for everything guys! Looks like the windshield is a go. Hope everyone has an excellent season!!!
