Winch on sled deck

Looking at adding a winch to my steel sled deck. Anyone have pics of how they mounted theirs, and what you did to keep the cable from digging into the deck when loading a dead sled?

I spose a small winch is a good idea if you plan to load on the safe side all the time, but a come-along in the truck should be good enough for an occassional dead sled.

FWIW - I find that as long as the come-along IS in the truck, we never need it.
Take it out - 'nother story.
You know how it goes...

We have used a pr of bigger ratchet straps to winch up one time. Took quite a while, but we go it...
If there is one thing in my truck - it's a bunch of ratchet straps!

.

Maybe screw a small piece of used hifax onto the end of the deck on each side and the cable can drop into the center of it.

mount winch in center of bed and run cable to headache rack on sled deck using a small block. Build a gusset from rail to deck. 1/4 plate aluminum. run cable off the back of the deck over a roller (boat trailer roller style)that sits on the ramp rail. At that point the cable will no longer be on the deck.

It wouldnt be that hard to shift the sled from center to either side.

ALSO..make a mounting fixture for winch on the front of the deck also. Making it removable.:decision:

cable would eat through hyfax before sled was aboard. I think.

looking back i sea yur deck is steel. make a mounting plate for winch up front on both sides if you wish. Use 2 or 4.. 1/2 pins. A little over kill but you sea where im going.
