Will someone please talk me out of a sled deck!!

I am on the edge of driving from Denver to Salt Lake this weekend to buy a sled deck & give up on a big heavy enclosed trailer. I only need to move two sleds around. Don't need the trailer as "garage space" for the sleds. Anybody want to try to talk some sense into me? Am I going to drive over my roof, thru the rear window, drive off the side or what ever else that can go wrong with a deck!

Probably no, but your sleds will look like He11.
Did that work?

Sled deck is the only way to go. Think about how many more places you can go with a sled deck. I would never buy a trailer. Your doing the right thing, hope your getting a good deal.

What kind of trailer do you have? I'm looking to get a larger one and get rid of the smaller one.

Personally I hate sled decks. I had a buddy with one and I hated loading it. You don't have a place to change out of your gear. It's really hard to lock up tools and spare gas. You have to work on your sled out in the cold if something happens and you still get the wonderful road grime on your sleds from the Colorado roadways. Just my 2 cents!

Remember that a sled deck is always on your truck , your not going to take it out after every use. It is a long way down when you fall off the side after the day is done and a couple beers. :)

gassing your sleds can be annoying
falling off sucks
ramps can sometimes be a PITA

Is that good enough or do you need more?

taking a deck on/off can be a PITA

more?

If you have a short box truck towing an enclosed behind it may be limiting
Sucks if you don't have reverse

That being said. I had a deck 2 seasons ago and sold it. I missed it all last season and just got other one :)

I couldn't imagine pulling a trailer any more.. Where we go riding it is so much easier to get to with the sled deck than pulling a trailer... it has its advantages and disadvantages.. if you do get one and it is your daily driver I would definately pay the extra to get a deck with sliding side rails and superclamps makes it way easier...

after having a deck last season for the 1st time. I now have no plans on owning a trailer again unless we get more than 2 sleds. The convience is great. not having to look in your mirrors all the time. just load and go. You will get used to it by the 3rd time you have loaded it .

you will lose your pickup for the winter.
I don't have garbage service where i live. So i have to tie the garbage cans up on the deck to take the garbage to the dumpsters.
driving thru bank drivethrus and food drive thrus is not as easy.

how do you get up on the deck at a gas station?

Open the tailgate and climb up on the deck.

On my second deck, just bought my third and will pick it up in a couple of weeks. Will probably never go back to a trailer.

Thanks for the input, if I get one it will have the 10ft ramp & retracting sides.. As far as gassing the sled goes, that's what my son is for. Biggest problem I see is getting his turbo'd M8 on the deck when it BLOWS UP ! I guess I better budget in for a winch.

You can get budget winches for that purpose from Northern Tool & Equipment catalogs.

We have pulled a sled onto a truck that had a 6" lift.. take the belt off and 2 guys yanking on it with tie downs and it was loaded without a problem... The only real problem is that it was my sled...

simplicity of use is nice, but I don't like having the deck on their all the time. Add to that the sleds just won't stay as clean, filling it with gas etc - a good covered trailer is the ticket for me. Also, where I live the covenants are very restrictive and they consider the deck to be a "trailer" and it can't be stored at the house and its too big to fit in the garage; so for me the trailer is much better.

decks make it alot easier for running around looking for areas to ride. keep your sled away from most of the grim and help with gas mileage. the ramps can be a pita but not that bad.
