Will never Run Holz Vents again

Bought a 09 dragon with a pump gas turbo, Has a holz intake vent in the shocktower(thats where the intake for my turbo is)
I am 100 percent Unsatisfied with the vent. Fought it all weekend with getting iced up. snow got stuck between the vent and the cheep screen door stuff that goes behind the vent and clogged my intake completely. the picture i took was even after hitting it with a screw driver many times to break the ice up.
Funny part about this is i put a 2cool shock tower vent on the clutch side and had Zero problems with ice on it. no snow between materials or any of the BS I'm fighting with the holz vent.

Ordered a 2cool vent to replace the holz one. can't wait to not have to worry about that sucker getting clogged/iced up

Don't be surprised when the 2cool one ices. If you are making enough heat there to melt the snow and form ice on the Holz one the same thing is going to happen with the 2cool one.

I've got 5 sets of the Holz ones on Dragons with no issues. But none of them are turbos with the intake right there.

What turbo kit is that, seems like a strange place for an intake.

(haha, beat me to it ^^^)

I have no experience with either, so this is just a .02 thought. Could the difference in performance be because of the heat/airflow ratio of each side? Clutch side = decent amount of heat, but lots of airflow from clutch movement. Possibly enough to keep heat dissipated before the snow is able to collect and freeze up like in your picture.

Exhaust side is really only intake air, but probably a lot of heat from turbo/exhaust temps, which might allow more snow to collect and melt then freeze into an ice layer. Could be the problem with the icy build up you are talking about?

boondocker pump gas kit... like i said i am excited to see how much better the 2cool vent is going to work.
The difference is the holz has a large hole for snow to come in and then a small screen to stop it therefor clogging the vent. when you park the under hood heat melts the snow and turns it to ice.
2cool vents have a tighter design on their outside material so snow that comes in is drastically reduced/eliminated. therefor there is no snow or not enough to melt/freeze

Makes sense ^^. Not to derail the thread, but I've wondered about what the effect of having the same larger hole screen fastened to the ETEC intakes to decrease the chance of something hitting the material and making a hole. I think the outcome may be the same after the sled has sat for a while. The last thing I want to do is have protected intakes that just freeze over and do no good anyway.

If it happened with the Holz screen chances are it will with any other screen in the same location. I can only suggest adding complete side panel vents as well as full hood vents as insurance so the heat can escape some where else besides your intake

To my knowledge they don't make a turbo intake vent. Nor do they build or install turbo kits. They are "vent kits" not intakes.
Put your 2cools in and shut up. You sound like a whiny biatch.

Call it a vent or an intake, it is neither if it ices up. If you have noting useful to add, take your own advise.

You missed the point. It's no different than whining about a 2wheel drive truck getting stuck all the time b/c you take it mudding. Not what it was built for.

As for something useful to add: HRP has never put screen material behind any of it's vents on the Dragon shocker tower vent. Yet here is some guy bashing their vent kit for the cheesy door screen crap that someone else put on.

Our vent kit does not include any screen.
The previous owner must have installed that on their own.
Do some research on a product before bashing it.

If the screen is clogging, take it off.

FYI: 2cool vents are all covered with screen.

Correct. the screen was put there because the vent let so much snow in. when i get back home i will post pictures of the amount of snow the vent let in.

Holz vents are made of aluminum... guess what, snow and ice stick to aluminum very badly. 2 cool vents are covered with a screen like material but snow and ice don't build up on it like the holz

as far as taking a 2 wheel drive truck mudding... really? What do you put vents on your sled for... increase airflow. its pretty hard to increase airflow when the entire thing is iced up. If thats not what a vent is built for then what is?

Serious? Ok, I've been running the Holz vents on sleds (personal and customer) since 2005. No complaints or issues if installed in the right locations.

How many sleds do you have experience with? 1? Ok. Not sure I'd be screaming about it with just 1 sled's experience.

Move on if you don't like it, but the number of people who have used Holz's vents with success is not insignificant.

Move on already. Go get your other vent good luck to you.

Your complaint was addressed by the manufacture. Originally you were mad that they iced over, Holz came in and basically said that they don't put screens on them because of that problem and someone else added the screen. You then complain about another issue that they let snow in.

If there is a hole there, some snow will come in. I've found that what little snow comes on has little effect.

Why exactly are you trying to accomplish with your thread besides slamming a company that has built top notch product for decades?
Did you bother picking up the phone to call them about the issue? I had a problem with a rear skid of theirs, called and they were more than helpful.

I have holz vents on my 2010 IQ and don't have any problems. Yes, the shock tower vent on the right side does let in a little snow, but not to where it is a problem. They also flow alot of air.
