Will it tow it?

As in pull stop and crusie at highway speeds:

I have an 07 Avalanche 1500 4X4 5.3 with a tuner.

We have the ability to borrow a 4 place enclosed toy hauler and take 4 sleds with us on the 21st. Should I be okay with this rig? Advice warmly welcomed!

Id really rather not take 2 on my open trailer and one in the truck if I can help it.

Thanks!

I use to tow my fourplace with a tahoe...seen them being towed by cherokee jeeps

I think you should be good..what kind of trailer?

If you have a brake controller you should be fine.. Maybe the avy comes with it???

Dad has the same truck and hauls his boat (7000#) to the lake and back.. But the boat trailer has hydro brakes and there aren't any hills..

Should be OK. I've pulled two fat horses with my truck and it did OK, i guarantee that was more weight than 4 sleds will be.

You might want to check the weight of the toy hauler and compare to your Avalanche's capacity. I have a 30' toy hauler and it squats my 1 ton truck and I have to use sway controls.

Are we talking the travel trailer type toy hauler or are we talking enclosed 4 place trailer?

Tralier brake controller and you are good to go. I used to pull my alum. enclosed with a 5.9l Grand Cherokee but I did have a load equalizing hitch.

It will be OK if you dont use it to often. If you intend to use that truck to pull a trailer like that all the time you will definatly want to think about putting a set of helper springs on it. These trucks are not made for towing something of that size. That does not mean they wont though just not as safe as a 3/4 or 1 ton truck.

I've towed a 28' open 6-place triple axle trailer with 4 RMK's still in the crates on it from Glendwood to Fort Collins with my '04 Tundra; and also have had an 8x16 enclosed trailer loaded (gross wt over 12k with the truck) during several moves. It can be done, but like what has been said, once in awhile is workable, every weekend and you're gonna squeeze the life out of that truck. BRAKE CONTROLLER is not a recommendation, it's a must. I wouldn't even attempt pulling a full size trailer without one, especially in the mts.

It's not about if the truck will tow it, it's about how well the tranny will take it. overheat the fluid and thing goes wrong in a hurry in an auto. A geo will tow a two place trailer with sleds, but do you wanna take in to the mountains? I suggest no, but if it's a fairly flat ride go for it.

If the toy hauler is simply a four place enclosed made by trition or simular you will be fine. If it has some kind of living quarters or bathroom in it i would take a pass based on trailer sway at high speed and overall tounge weight. my $0.02

Good point....overheat the fluid and you're tranny is toast. Mine never heated up, and I think if you're running a separate trans cooler you should be fine.

Just a plain 4 place no living quarters or facilities. I looked at the towing capacity VS the weight I am looking at towing and it shouldnt be too bad. I have the brake controller. I tow a 21Foot bassboat with a 250 and though its not as heavy as this trailer the entire rig loaded with fuel and all my gear is pretty damn close.

I have an extra tranny cooler as I have towed as far as Coeur D Alene Idaho, Zapata Texas, etc. I would say 70% of my driving is towing so I am not a rook by any means. Actually had I originally known the weight of the trailer I would never have even asked the question.

Were gonna do a test run around the springs. If itll run up through woodland park I think i will be okay.

We plan to head most likely to Lakota.

Thanks for the advice!
