Will a 20/43 gear ratio work with a 74 link chain?

I have a 20T upper gear and a 74 pin chain and would like a 45T lower gear that is 15 wide, but can't find one. Would a 43 work with this setup or would the chain be too long?

It should work but you are going to have a pretty big bow around the adjuster. You could also run a 45 tooth 13 wide bottom gear and be fine if you can find one.

yes a 74 link chain will work w that setup
dont need a 15w bottom gear
if you change to a 15w setup, you can leave the 13w bottm gear (it will align itslef)
all the 440's run this setup
if you buy TEAM gears (they r cheapest) you will need the 440 spacer to put behind the top gear
you need this to accomodate for the wider gear

might want to consider a different gear ratio though - 2.25 is optimal, you would be running a 2.15

good luck!

It was suggested on here (Snowest) to run a 20/45 setup with the 7 tooth 3P drivers which is what I am after. You can run a 13 wide lower gear? That might be a 440 deal but not sure about an 800 with nitrous.

7th tooth drivers??? hmmm... i take it they re aftermarket?
my 06 X 800 has 9th drivers

i also run a 20/45 gears
sorry i just meant the 440's run the 15w top gears, 15w chain and 13w bottom gears - not the ame ratios

yes, tons of dudes (myself included) run the 13w bottom gear - no need to change it to a 15 w
the 15w chain will centre itself on the bottom gear

BUT you will require the 440 spacer to go behind the top gear - as mentioned before, it compinsate for the wider gear (the spacer is narrower)
the part number is: 504 093 400

now, some aftermarket gears, will come notched so you dont need this spacer
if you order an OEM top gear or TEAM gear, you will need this spacer
TEAM is 1/2 the price of OEM - it works just fine

i really dont know what effect ur 7th drivers will have on this gearing set up though
I would check into that

again...I run stock 9th drivers, 20/45 gearing w a 15w top gear, 15w chain and 13w bottom gear

any questions, just let me know!
