Wilderness Violations

Or maybe 9 are being contested in court and the NPS has rules about such things. Just a guess. The deadline issue seems most plausable.

NPS are a bunch of pink lipgloss wearing sissies(seen it w/ my own eyes ISYN!) which is why the try and categorize glacial river bottoms as "sensitive riparian areas". FYI most glacial rivers flood and washout every spring.

On the other hand, rules are rules and guys poaching only give all of us a black eye.

Perhaps there were extenuating circumstances with some of the tickets and they shouldn't of been given?

I'm sure 99% of people don't just deliberately go down there for the fun of it.

Some people may not be familar with the area and might venture in there by accident.

Also, there are places were people can go down by accident and can't get back out.

There is one 8.5x11 sign on a tree in one spot but you can ride a long way down a ridge and not even know were the boundy is and which way it runs. Not like the maps have a high degree of accuracy and are topographical giving you a good idea of were boundrys are.

Its one thing if someone looks right at a sign and goes right by just to play.
But if people are unaware, lost or in trouble and no harm has been done, it shouldn't be a ridiculous fine. Flagrantly breaking the law is one thing but ACCIDENTS DO HAPPEN.

People are responsible for knowing were they are just like hunting, but when your in the backcountry some places are not so easy to identify.

Teepee Creek is one of my favorite places to ride so hopefully the accidents and law breakers will be minimal.

I would hate for this place to be closed because the forest service wants to stop people going into the wilderness. It seems like they close other areas like Hyalite (still makes me mad) without reason so lets not give them any more ammunition.

Exactly what kind of long term damage is a snowmobile going to do in a caldera?

The reason only 11 were listed was because the other 9 were YNP Officers on the lunch break and didn't have there proper id at the time. They have dismissed the citations.
I really have no clue but i would guess a deadline or maybe just some confusion. the whole Yellowstone thing is a joke anymore and just ways to make money in the name of being greener. there going to feel pretty silly when mother nature comes knocking on the door again :face-icon-small-dis

People not obeying the rules just hurts the sport!!

and when the rules become so restrictive that I and 10's of thousands like me no longer care and ride anyway, then and only then will things start to change. We need to take a page out of the enviro-nazi hand book.
Civil disobedience.

What are the fines like for this? I spent some time around Teepee on my last outing (LOL, inside joke) and wondered about that.
