Why would a fellow snowmobiler do this to another

This post renews some faith in people......I have had similar experiences, including a $16000 truck I just bought from a lot, who completely lied to me about it.
I bought an 08 XP myself to part out, seller said the clutch was great, it had been beat with a hammer on the OUTSIDE of the sheave, it went right into the garbage, there wasn't a thing in it worth saving. The internmals were destroyed/worn out completely.
When things get like this, I just have some faith in karma and know that people will get theirs in the long run. Hope he likes his new ride!

He loves his new sled, now that he knows it will be up and running he's very happy. I also believe in Karma, This guy will get what is coming to him, it always works out that way.

ski-doo clutches...

the first time i rebuilt a clutch off an 08 xp. I was appalled at what garbage the clutch parts are. I mentioned to the dealer when i went in to buy the rebuild parts that they were crap, he just laughed. so i said, so these clutches have to be rebuilt every 1500 miles or so? he said no, about every 1000-1200 miles it will need rebuilt. That told me right there what JUNK ski-doo clutches were.

Ski Doo clutches are not junk! They are like everything else, they require maintanance. I have owned SkiDoo since 94 and have never replaced a part other than ramps or springs in a TRA and ramps and springs are tuning items. If you think you can just get on and pull the rope and ride you will end up with a clutch like Redbull has.

Now Redbull when you pull that spring cup off make sure you use some all thread and make yourself a tool to hold the cup from flying off when you take the 3 screws out. Could be a tooth remover if you are not careful. Also when you put the spider back in it is handy if you happen to have the 3 clamp tools to hold all the buttons and springs in while you are putting in the spider. Otherwise be prepared for some frustration.

That is the most idiotic statement ever. I have seen more Cat and Polaris clutches fail than Doo Clutches. Doo clutches do take some patience. But once you get them dialed in they are they most versatile clutch out there. You can literally adjust them on the fly. No other clutch can do that. You have to go back and change a ramp, spring or weight to adjust rpms or enagagement. I rebuild mine every other season and more often than not I only need to replace a bushing and everything else is fine. NO OTHER CLUTCH from any maker is as durable or versatile as the TRA. why do you think Ski Doo has not changed the physics of it in years? And they are EASY EASY EASY to work on.

Take it easy...

I was responding to REDBULL about what to expect from that clutch. And since you guys obviously know a lot more about clutches than i do. explain how YOU can make the plastic movable face bushing last more than a thousand miles. I was so disgusted that i had my machinist build me one out of brass. IT works good. The lever arms were really loose, pins worn, buttons worn etc. I might not rebuild as many doo clutches as you do. But I do know what to look for when i do rebuild ANY clutch. Another thing, I'm a Man and when I call someone an idiot ,I do it to there face. Have a nice day.

Did you go east or west to buy this sled?

This is the reason I wont buy a ski doo again until they change their clutches

I've put 10,000 miles on a TRA on one of my 600's but only got about 1500 miles on an 800 before it got really rattly and had to replace buttons and orings. The 800r likes to eat clutches!

It's called maintenance. I put more abuse on my clutch than most because I run boost, about 12-14 psi. So my clutch is exposed to more stress than usual. Every other season I replace a few things. They are fine but I do anyways just to be sure. I use those parts as spares for other folks clutches and on a stock sled if something happens. I went 2000 miles on my 2008 XP with no clutch maintenance other than cleaning. As for you being a man, well it must be the woman in you misinterpreting what I said. I said the statement was idiotic, not you. Have a wonderful day, yourself.

mine has allmost 4000 on original parts.but i take apart and clean it.

Pretty much all it takes.

I apologize, I said his statement was idiotic. Seems that the sand in his gina hurt his feelers.

wow a used sled that has 2,800 miles and needs some work, imagine that;) not to be rough on you but i would say on a sled with that many miles if you did not thoroughly inspect it you have no one to blame but yourself.

I knew this somehow would end up falling on me. Your rite I shouldn't have taken another snowmobilers word, especially when I asked a couple different times about the clutches. My bad.

Thanks for that useless post.

Here's a couple of links to a couple of sleds I sold this winter. Both were 14 years old, and the buyers got what I told them they were getting. Which were well kept and sound sleds. Heck one of the guys who bought one of these has even called me back wanting to buy another one that I said would be for sale this spring. I guess I would be in the same boat as Redbull because I am still dumb enough to take a man at his word.
