Why won't people buy service manuals?

This site is a wonderful place to get info to fix issues with our sleds, but I'm always amazed at the amount of questions asked that would be answered by simply reading a service manual. These manuals will give you a much better understanding of how your sled works and help you to diagnose issues and even better yet, prevent alot of the common service issues since you would be aware of them before they actually occur.

If you want to have a better ownership experience with your sled, buy and become familiar with a manual.

Ya Right

This is American. People don't read instructions. Most people don't read their owners manual let alone a service manual. Why read when you can just ask someone. I agree with you.........I am just saying

I know, trust me. I'm all about trying to help people with their issues, but some are amazing. Like somebody tearing apart a motor and then asking what the bolt torques should be. I've learned lots from this place and the guy's here but IMO a service manual is a must have when you are trusting this machine to get you back safely.

Everybody talks about avy gear, proper clothing, and emergency supplies. IMO, knowing your sled inside and out is just as important, that way you have a much better understanding of how things work and how to fix some things in the field.

Yeah, I agree that people should buy a service manual. People spend $10K on a new sled but won't spend $80 for a manual. Human nature I guess.

Agreed. Only now days most service manuals are available on line for free. So there is really no excuse.

Most of them are bootlegged illegal copies... We cant allow any links to those in any posts any longer. They are copy-written.

I'm as cheap as the next guy... but even most of those on Ebay are illegal copies.

A service manual is easy to throw in the pickup or trailer and take along when you head out on a trip. I've pulled mine out and refered to something several times. It's a great reference to have with you and doesn't take up much room.

Are most people buying the Service Manual at the dealer or is there a good online (legitimate) resource?

Yeah, they are going to give it to you. That way they can forget about the $75 an hour or more that their service dept can make.

I agree, everyone should have a service manual. I tend to get pissed off when I'm helping someone with their sled and we gotta fawk around for an hour to figure something out that we could find out in 2 minutes if they had a manual.
