Why the o ring chain?

Can anyone tell me why timbersled uses a oring chain ?

I ride a motocross track in the river sand and non oring chains last all season .

Back 10 years ago when bikes came with cheep chains I tried a oring it was like the brake was on took 5 hp away ! When you let off in the air it was like dragging the brake...
I noticed allot of drag with the mountain horse ..thinking of ditching the o ring
 
Interesting question. Unfortunately, I do not have any experience without the oring chain. But, I am interested in the answer.
 
I have always run an o-ring chain on my bike. Basically just because of the claims of the added strength and longer life. I haven't tried putting a non-oring chain on other than when they have come new on a bike. I felt that they stretched quicker and things just didn't last as long, although now you have me thinking about it now.

I've been running a non o-ring chain this year and I can't say I've noticed a performance difference. There's a healthy amount of drag and resistance to free-wheeling in the track already, so I don't think an o-ring chain makes it any worse. The reason I switched to a non o-ring this year was because I wanted to add a bit of length to the chain so I could run a countershaft sprocket that was one tooth bigger. I found a half-link that was non o-ring, so I bought a non o-ring chain to go along with it.

The biggest drawback I've seen is that the chain is constantly stretching. I have to adjust the chain tensioner after every ride and sometimes during a ride. It's at the point now where the chain is almost rubbing the track. I think it's stretched enough that I could take the half-link out. But running this stretched chain worries me, since it will probably cause some premature wear on the sprockets and will probably eventually break. I ran the stock o-ring chain last year and it never stretched at all.

To be fair, this chain wasn't the heaviest-duty stuff out there, so if I want to continue using non o-ring, I should probably find a heavier chain.

uh oh ?

I was determined to run non o ring chain in my chain case when I built our three kits. so $100 non o ring chain was toast after three or four rides ? so DID and RK is junk under $150 I guess.

Put a $50 o ring chain in my chain case..............no stretch of significance..................so drilled the case cover full of holes to let the snow in for cooling, works great, hardly any adjustment necessary. I don't like the o ring drag, but the non o ring stretch and sprocket wear was unacceptable. I spray the oring chain every day and let it run in cooooling snow, and it works.
