Why is my clutch clicking?

I'm a newbie when it comes to clutches. The primary clutch on my 03 700 is clicking when it spins. I don't remember it doing that at the end of last season. does anyone know what this means?

700? I would pop the primary clutch off and start the engine back up and listen for the clicking still.
Back in the day there was a bulletin from brp about the ticking of the 700 to where the piston skirts were collapsing prematurely and causing excessive ticking noise. The piston would actually have a smile shape to it on the exhaust port side after some miles on the pistons from rocking in the cylinders.

Pop clutch off engine and listen for ticking. Warning though, start the engine first and get it to run for a minute before popping the primary off. An engine is difficult to start without the clutch on providing some inertia to keep the crank turning over.

I have an 02 with what I am guessing is a similar sound i have been told its nothing. Never run a doo im used to the Polaris clutches so I am a loss as well

If youre hearing ticking while its running theres reason for concern. If you hear the ticking while turning the motor over by hand or with the recoil its just the flyweight arms moving in the clutch and is normal.

I hope I have the scan from the original brp update bulletin it was like 2000 or 2001, I don't remember but I will look for it, I hope I can find it. I know I have had hard drive failures in the past, hope it is on my home h.d.

I thought I noticed the same thing today when I had mine running.
I started it earlier this fall and diddnt notice it then but today i thought i noticed a ticking in the clutch. i ran it before to drive it in my wash bay, where i powerwashed it all off then drove it back out. never noticed a funny noise. now today i think i hear a clicking comming from the clutch. any ideas i have a 800

A clutch can start to click when the engine idles.
The springs underneath the torque buttons are set (sagged)
The torque buttons can have a smile worn on one edge, the buttons will rock in the button galley on the sliding sheave.
The torque button 0-rings can have failed.
The governor cup cushion has become hardened and material on the outer edge (rim) has tears in it allowing for the sliding sheave to displace back and forth with each power pulse from the engine.

I have heard it is a pain to breakdown these I am ordering a dynomo kit for my self for Christmas will it bet hard to do it my self never working on a TRA clutch before?

sometimes the movable shiv doesn't return all the way out if the spring is binding on the plastic sleeve surrounding it(if so equipped)... allowing the arms to clunk on the ramps ...have you cleaned your cluthes and checked em over lately?;).are you sure it's coming from the clutch? i had a ticking noise that i thought was from the pto end of things:confused: and it turned out to be that the pipe had cracked along the weld seam and the ticking noise was the sound of the edges of the cracks ticking together when the exhaust pulses hit the right frequency:eek:(with the insulation/shield on i couldn't see the cracks/exhaust leaks:mad:)
