Why does the rear suspension seem so stiff?

Just picked up a 2005 600 HO, and even jumping on the seat and pegs barely gets the rear to move. Is this normal. The Bike has only about 5 hrs on it and is in mint shape, but this seems weird.

You complaining allready!

Just sit back and read, pour a glass of something saucy and take it all in!

If you scroll to the bottom of the first page you will find the search options for this section, click from the beginning. Take notes, don't laugh this is serious bussiness.

Download or read your manual, it does have some important info like jetting, and stock clutching.

Then fix the problem you just gave yourself, most of your friends will never get the chance to experience this kind of headake.:face-icon-small-hap

If you want it sold there's a new Swapmeet section above, two others are allready there.:p

Just needs to be tuned a little, Like SHA says the manual tells you which springs to adjust, you shaould have some droop in the suspension so loosen up the springs. If you don't have a manual you can download one at adboivins snowhawk web site.

Welcome to the forum.

Sounds like the shocks might be rusted up, and / or all the bushings in the suspension. It happens when you find a Hawk that has only been ridden a couple times and put away wet.

Since AD Boivin is dumping this model line and parts are hard to find you may just want to consider selling this thing asap. You may even have to take a little loss on it. Like SHA said, just list it in the swapmeet section.

:D;);)

Put your front ski on wheels then jump on it, that should free a bit of the movement. I experienced on mine that if I jump on it with the ski on the ground it won't move much but if I put the wheel cart I have for the front ski it will move a lot free-er. Basically when the rear suspension collapse it wants to push on the ski forward, if this one has a good grip on the ground it won't move and so won't your rear suspension.

I share sledr2's theory on the fact that all the brass (or is it bronze?) bushings are stuck in the rust/oxidation and need a complete teardown/regrease. Quite simple job that everybody should do once or twice every year anyway.

Don't expect too much from this rear suspension aby the way, it'll only do so much... Parts are available to make it work "not as bad" though.

Welcome to the Hawk forum.. I dont know squat about the 600 suspension
but the guys above do.. Like sleder2 mentions ck the shocks and rotating points on the suspension.. Im sure you will love your new machine..

Yup!

Welcome to the forum! Where are you located? Come for a ride or to Hawk Fest!

When I first rode the hawk I couldn't believe how stiff the suspension was on them. Try them in the whoops at first! They suck. If you're interested in selling for a good deal let me know I'll take it off your hands. :D

After you hit the real snow and get used to riding the thing a bit you won't ever give it up. I would highly suggest getting the drop down brackets from sledr2 for the suspension. Made a big difference having an extra inch or two on the give with the factory suspension and not too spendy either.

Yes, where are you located ? They are stiff. Nevermind Tony. Hes out of work and pissed off , so he spends more time on here and throws more poop around. Screw down the adjusters on your shocks. 05 supposed to have the rear re.valved.

You wait!

Your stiff,

When and if you get the spine to come to a Hawk Fest which you get all excited every year then meow out, caus you just can't believe it's a worth while event.

You say it's because your worried about the wife and daughter, and them not having anything to do, but you know why, it's you. Even your ability will be welcomed by the others, but I'm gonna raz you like there's no tomorrow Mike! :)

Joe's gonna stand right next to me with a bull horn, we'll auction off your 6hunnert the last night, it's clean, and a brand new engine to boot.:face-icon-small-hap

Why would I want to get a job, thats why I married T.

Here's the number for his Hawk, we've disscussed $4,500, 209-345-2330.
Get him to throw in a wrap like he sold Ozzydog, orange camo.

what was this topic all about again?....

oh yeah, its stiff. once pounding the bumps you will be wanting it stiffer at the end near full compression...the hawk doesnt have a 4" sag like a mx bike does when you sit on it. alot in part of what tlk said, the ski must go forward or track must go backward...hard to do unless in snow. id try a set of stock 503 springs on it and see if that helps you any...helped me out some

Thanks for the suggestions. Guess I will just have to wait to ride it and then judge it from there. Being over here in flatland southern Ontario, I won't really have the opportunity to air this thing out big time like you lucky *** mountain guys. Either way, can't wait for some white stuff to see how badly I can hurt myself on this thing.:D

BTW, if someone wants to take this thing off my hands, I am open to rediculously high offers. Heck even a decent offer might own it!
