Why did i lose a slide out the back?

Went on a poker run today, put on about 100 miles. Riding was good, snow was good and soft. Cruising along about 60 i got a hell of a vibe and then sounded like my DD blew. Under further inspection the right side hyfax is gone and the bolt that holds it on is sheared off. Slides havent been changed and it has about 1800 miles on it. The other one looks perfect. Did the bolt just fail or do i have a different problem? BTW sled is an 07 M6. Thanks!

Sounds like the screw may have come loose - can you see if the threads have loc-tite on them?

I was riding with a guy that lost one once, as near as we could figure out he ran over the top of a steel fence post and it snapped the bolt and peeled the hyfax back. I think it must have caught and then went out the side, I can't see how it would have made the round!

The bolt is still there, just broken off flush with the bottom of the rail. Nut is still there. Rather bizarre. Sure did make a hell of a racket when it came out. Got slides on the way, and rail tips just for good measure.

sounds like the hifax bolt somehow came loose and sheared off. are the threads the same heighth above the nut on the broken one as the other? would probably be hard to tell just a thread or 2 difference.

Funny someone else has had this happen. My 09 XF8 did it. It is from using reverse and having a flat spot on the back of the slide, so while in reverse the track pounds on it. At the same time it cracked my front plastic protector, I'm betting your front protector is broke off and the track was pounding on the slide from the front and finally ripped it through the bolt. I cut a 45 degree angle on the back of my slides to prevent this from happening again. I also put on the anti stab kit.

I had the SAME thing happen. I was riding is island park and it was the first day out there and i was riding towards the hills... I did not feel a thing and one of my riding buddys comes flying past me with a curled up slide.... I stop and sure enough my left side slide came off, somehow made it throught a track window and didn't hurt a thing. After some investigating i found a steel fence post that i rode over and didn't even feel. The post must have broke the slide bolt and popped it off.... Went back to the cabin, found a new bolt, and pounded the slibe back off.... 2000 miles later and i'm still running the same slide.
