who's goin to the black hills

thats going to be some alright riding is there any kind of base heard its pretty light snow

better be wearing orange so the hunter's don't shoot you!

i was wondering what the rules on that was... i know they never really used to like people riding until the trails opened, mid december i think? fuel is so cheap it would be worth the trip out there for some early season pow

according to the thread in general, you can ride on forest service, just not trails that cross private, if you stay on public your golden, more info on dakota site

base

remember, before this blizzard, it was 70 degrees so this is our base. We had nothing on the ground until last night. It snowed all night & most of today. I believe there is around 48 inches in the hills but we also had 70mph winds with it. Could be bare spots & stumps!

Some of the draws have well over 60" in them.. however there is quite a few bare spots.. remeber.. NO SLEDS TILL Dec. 15.. I know there has already been some people up there... but lets have some respect..

black hills

I called trailshead lodge on thurs they said ok to come up you can run trails but donot start grooming till dec 15:

black hills riding

the Black Hills are rated in the top 10 in the country...when we have snow. We have been VERY dry for the last 8-10 yrs, but it's lookin like this may be our year. There aren't a lot of long pulls, but the boondockin is awesome! Also some sweet meadows to play in & a great trail system if ur into that.
The trails are not groomed until Dec 15th, but since this is the powder section, I'm assuming that u all like the pow. You can ride anywhere but on private property anytime the roads/trails are impassable by 4 wheeled vehicles. Sooo... tear it up!

Whats the riding like there. I have never heard much about it but its a closer drive than most places we go. sj

deadwood is pretty much trails only imo. the second you go off trail you smack a rock or tree stump! its almost guaranteed. great nightlife though.
they just dont get the snow and even if they did some moron didnt cut the tree low enough. i think they do it on purpose as they rent alot of sleds in that area.

I've hit BOTH out there!!!!

I am heading there in about 3 hours for a day of riding. Sounds like it will be worth it. We are lucky to get 40 inches of snow a year here in Iowa so cant pass it up especially with the itch to try out the new sled and the cheap gas prices.

my dad said the hunters up ther shoot at pritty much anything that moves.........

yea thats pretty much how it is everywhere in sd.

also i think our state should somehow come up with a program for our fellow nieghbors in prison to pull them damn stumps out. place is bad news for them. if you went screaming thru a meadow at 60 out there id say your nuts.
