Who runs the Groomer?

Last spring there was some talk on here about having a section for Groomers. It would be cool to have a place to read about tips, tricks, and tech. for groomers. What does your club have to groom trails? BR 275 with a Mogul master drag here.

Don't know much about groomers, my old man used to run them for a living at Beaver Creek and a buddy I excavated with used to build Vails Half pipe. Things are pretty sweet though have to say my favorite is the piston bully by bombardier.

Here is a picture of our clubs groomer a 2000 Piston Bully, Park Bully. Thing is sweet.

2008 Tuker Terra with an arrowhead drag (I would rather have a MM)

?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Pisten Bully is a brand from Kassboher All Terrain Vehicles and are usually red in color.

Bombardier no longer makes grooming vehicles, it was sold to Camoplast and now Prinoth is the owner. Funny thing is they are still the same with just a different sticker. Most of the time they were yellow color.

I used to do a little grooming with the club back in MN

2008 Tucker Terra with a custom made drag from a local fab shop.

Nice rigs and are real cozy to operate except the fact that you can't se jack out the back especially when the windows are constantly getting covered in snow dust.

That club also has an older ASV that's a total pile and are looking at a Challanger 85 Hp tractor with quad tracks for their 2nd groomer.

Wow! That's the first time I've seen a club buy a new PB400.
You lucky dog! Are those black painted 4.2 Combi grousers?

Our club has a 2003 BR2000 with a tiller and a drag. ~4000hrs on it.
It runs pretty well, but we did have an issue with one of the stick potentiometers, where every now and then it would start jumping towards the left side of the road. We're adding an aux fuel tank for longer trips Overall a pretty nice machine.

I've been hunting for a 2005-2007 BR350 4000-6000hrs for access to our cabin. 2005 was the first year they had the newer frame, and moved to coolers track-side.

Northern oil fields seem to be sucking all of the inventory out of the ski areas for transport cats - they're hard to come by, and prices seem high due to tight supply. Go figure.

See the plastic on the seat?

If I had a chance to drive one of those, the plastic on that seat would need to be discarded after I got done.............:p:eek:

I would love to drive on of those things.......

Yup had to discard the plastic this morning after the first run!!!!!!!!;)

Mtndoo, No I wish they were the Combi's those are the steel tracks, they last a whole lot longer in our type of hard pack than the combis, but a whole lot more rotating mass!! Tractor doesnt mind, things got more friggin HP than I could have imagined, it blows thru 3' whoops like they arent even their!!! Gunna take a little gettin use to with 18 functions on one F-16 style joy stick and a computer screen on the dash, oh and heated air ride drivers seat, Blaplunkt stero system and the cab is quiter than most nice cars, but its just a learning curve already pretty much got it down!! Oh and by the way the one sticker missing is the California OHV sticker... No way our club could afford that bad boy!!!! I am one of two state trainers for Cal OHV in the PB's so I get tons of stick time..300-400 hrs per season!!

07phazer, the tiller is advantages in several ways, for our steep narrow roads where sometimes you have a foot of track hanging off the edge it makes it manageable, also the tiller actually processes the snow creating heat which melts the crystals together, the multitude of finishers on this tiller (4) lay it out nice, then the warmed crystals refreeze making a tough bullet proof trail system!! You just have to be really good at double and triple wide trails 28' & 42' so you dont get a seam inbetween passes, I have 2 roads where sections of it are double and triple wide, with the multitude of depth and face angle settings and various down pressures you can do a seamless trail 42' wide!!!:D:D

42 feet is huge! most of our trail is a challenge just to get the groomer through(14 feet wide) lots of nice tight bush trails, with some fields in between, but at the most we only ever groom double width. Is there an advantage to having your drag hook to the groomer with a gooseneck instead of the regular pintle hitch, other than easier/tighter turning?

arcticrider:

Those windshield wipers look "magnum"!!!

There looks to be thick wires running through them? or hot water? Is that to keep the blades nice and warm and cleaned off from snow/slush?

If I win the lottery, I will get one of these and buy a cabin that is real hard to get to without one of these. Have a cabin a few miles off the road, then have a garage near the access road to put it in. I pull up with the truck, load up the PB and head for the hills.......

Just a guess on the cost of that thing,,,,,,,, hmmmmmmm,,,,,,, ummmmm.................... $225,000? Am I in the range?

Jeff that is hot engine coolant run thru them to keep the ice off!!!!!!!! And add another 65-70g's to that figure!!!!!!!! Phazer yea 42' is wide but most of my stuff is outta the sides of mountains and can get sidehilled off at 50-60 degrees!!!!! I have two roads that can be done 42' wide, they are about 4 miles in length each and have wide sweeping turns in them, then it goes up to the nasty stuff!! If you goose neck a drag it is easier to manauver and most tractors pull better from that stand point rather than a low style pintle hitch!!:D:D

$300k? What the (jaw resting firmly on the floor)

Come on, you got a couple of tracks, a nice diesel motor, a cab, a heater, f-16 style controls, some hydraulics, a great stereo, a couple of beams to rest everything on...........

I guess I will have to win two lotteries to buy that :D

BTW how fast can you safely go in one of those without the drag of course????

We run three BR 275's and one BR2000. Mostly snowmobile trails in Wash. I get a lot of stick time probably around 600-700hrs this season over 750 last year. Big Bombi's in the Cascades. Koz's page rocks lot's of great info.:p:p:p
