who runs AV gas in there mcx nytro?

I may or may not run AVGas, I keep reading the.... "dont bother, and its a waste of money". But then I will read that its a good idea to run quality fuels all the time. Also think it depends on your setup. I will be running 16-17lbs front mount impulse. I have been told that 94oct is all I need. but my conscience says to run avgas. with all the money I (we) put into our sleds, and for the extra .20 cents a liter it cant hurt anything but your wallet and maybe an O2 sensor or two.

I am not 100% but I think AV Gas is 100 oct. maybe someone that knows will second that.

Yes audmike! Ya Avs a little high on the lead but oh well right!!( your not drinking the stuff!! No and iam sure premium 95 oct is lots, i was just wondering if and when we want to go to revy and play around on the shoots!( might need just a few more HP)

Thx

I dont have a clue how much HP.

Technically MCX says you can run 17psi on Pump premium at altitude with the 270 kit. I use a little av gas for insurance but theres more than one guy running 17 psi on pump gas around.

I run around 17 and use 100LL. I know you can get away with 91 octane at altitude but sometimes I ride at 2000' as well, so I just run straight av and don't worry about my fuel. Have had it higher but generally run 17. 17lbs is 270hp as far as I am aware, so 18 would likely be closer to 280 but those would be sea level numbers. 17-18 at altitude gives me all I need. The intake temps are a little lower on MCX than a front mount, so boost for boost they make a little more power and can use a little less octane. My son runs the same setup. Coming off a 740 mod you could just run it at 12-13 on 91 octane and have a big smile for the first season, especially knowing you have another 30-40hp available when you turn it up.

Right!! Now i live a 4300 feet and ride right up to 9000 feet!!
YA iam sure ill be starting off on lower boost!:D:D iam smiling already!! :D

I run straight 100LL Avgas at 17 pounds. IMO the extra $ for AVgas over premium isnt hurting the bank and your covering yourself from potential motor work.

Boost on! :face-icon-small-hap

(running pure 100LL avgas)
Would someone explain how you turn the boost up and down? And why can you turn it up more as you get higher? (lets say 4300 to 9000 feet)
Also can u turn it up over the limit of what the fuel can do??

thx

AV Gas

I run straight Av 100LL in my 08 Nitro MCX @ 17-18#'s. From 1000ft to 6000ft and have 2500 miles on the motor. I also mix the 100LL with Lucas upper cyclinder lubricant about 50ml for 5 Gal.
I have had a flash point test done on Shell's Av and it was 103.8 Octane.

Where to buy AVGAS

Anyone know where you can buy AV gas around kelowna? I checked with the kelowna airport, and they said not a chance, I would have to have an aircraft on the tarmac to purchase any fuel from them.

Av Gas Purchase

Just hit up one of the smaller fix wing companys they should sell it to you. Surprised that one of the distributers like shell or esso didn't want you around. Most of the dealers are happy to see snowmobilers.

Fuel

I run 91 octane all day from 2300 to 8000'. 270 McXpress on Nytro with 174 17lbs boost... 1300 miles....Never a problem. McXpress kit is by far the best turn key and go kit out there.

I run 50-70% AV fuel, I still like to keep a small amount blended with premium. Its overkill but peace of mind is worth alot IMO. Prem 1.10$ AV 1.45$ .....not alot of difference on price.

I buy it a local airport in my town. I just show up with a barrel or numerous jerry cans. They are always happy to take my money.

Thanks Tuesday!!:face-icon-small-hap

Have 270 MCX 17pounds, 4300 easy km this season and not a problem, not even the slightest burp! Run purple 91 every day, although, if riding with the big boys like Rozzy, Coupal, Steveo, Norval..... I will throw in 2 litres of C12 in tank and 2 litres in my 5 gallon carry on! Big thanks to Brent and Nick at Vernon Motorsports, havin an epic season!

Don't think that is entirely true. Try another airport or another person at Ktown

I run a tetraethyl lead additive that can raise your octane 16 full points. With 91 octane pump gas I mix in enough to make 100 octane and have been fine at 20lbs of boost with a 9:1 head shim. Remember, just because you mix 1/2, 91 with 110 doesn't mean you get 100, it's more like 96.
