Looking for input on using the challenger 9204M 2.3" 137" LT from tracks usa. I know several people are using them with success. It costs about $200 less than the timbersled track, taller paddles, and its a single ply. Anyone know the weight?

I'm new to these snowbikes and I looked under the front of my snowbike track and it was a pleasant surprise to see there is no tunnel clearance issues. So, it looks like you could run pretty much as tall of a track as you would like. That was nice to see.

I have a 144 x 2.5" Camo Extreme on the kids M5 but, that's a 3.0" pitch track.

I agree, a 136" x 3" (for those of us with the 2.52" Pitch drivers) and a 137" x 3" for those with the 2.86" drivers would be awesome.

Has anyone spoke with Bruce at tracksusa about it? He's in very tight with Camoplast. If there was a minimum order of maybe 300 tracks, I wonder if Camoplast may consider building a snowbike track and selling it through tracksusa?

the 9204 cut down to 12.5" wide from tracks USA weights 42.3#. helped a few guys into them and have really liked them, they dig like a SOB and just get more push and less spin in the deep snow.

and if you think $100 is steep to cut a track, try one yourself, its horrible, you can do it, but straight lines aren't gonna happen and it will cost that much in tooling to figure out a good cutting technique.

I scored a free Camo Extreme 162 3.0 pitch 2.5" paddles. (Thanks Ricky Anderson) It was ripped in half. Cut to 12.5" wide on table saw with rip fence (3 person operation, lots of WD-40 and carbide blade, but real easy to do). Cut to your preferred length (I did 41 windows = 123" long) and sent to Carrolltech in New York to vulcanize back together. Got a little over 5 hundy dundy into it with shipping and all. Works really well and only 4 pounds heavier than the 1.75" paddle 121 I replaced. Wish I had a turbo to really make it effective.

Cheers,

LG

Do you know the weight of the timbersled track in 121 and 137 by chance? Thanks

How much did it cost you to have the track vulcanized back together? Would be sweet to have that track. Did you have to swap drivers too?

Do some measuring before you spend time/money on a 3" tall paddle track. The limiting point on my kit was at the chain tensioner sprocket. As my chain is stretching, there is light contact with the chain. Would be heavy contact if I had a 3" paddle.
I do not have a picture of the repair area handy. If I remember, I will snap one at home tonight when I'm done checking my ski bolt.
This setup works good. It's nice having enough traction to actually lift the front end and "wheelie" through obstacles etc. That old 1.75" paddle would never do that except on spring hero snow. I really need to get out with Randy or someone like that and do some direct measurable comparisons.

Track Cutting

If someone wanted to cut there track to width I used a cheap portaband from Harbor Freight. Cut like butter. Used a piece of 3/4" square stock for a guide and Kant twist clamps going thru the windows to make a 10-3/4" wide track for my home made kit.

Yes, bought a set of 3.0 pitch drivers and pressed them on. (drivers were made to fit shaft of 1 1/16" to 1 1/8", fit perfect. Cost like $18.00 each if I remember correctly, stupid cheap. Slightly larger outside diameter but my bike is geared to low anyway so it helped. (imho)

The track vulcanizing was twice what I paid last time coming in at 460 bones. Since the track was a freeby that wasn't a big deal to me.

I would like to throw this track on my buddy's turbo. Grin...

chain of inter fear ance

go big, don't worry about chain hitting the track, notch the track ( factory approved from cat ), more traction means more thrills, if you taint got power go traction.........all good.
