Who Here has a RPM Burandt heated trailer and drives with the furnace going?

I was told by the dealer and Trails West all along you can turn on the furnace using the timer, let the trailer warm up as you drive and warm up the sleds.

Whats the truth behind this? I was told today by Trails West you can't drive with your furnace on

I asked the featherlite dealer when I bought mine. They said everybody leaves their funance on when towing but technically you're not suppose to. Honestly I'm surprised Burandt encourages people to do it in the video.

Ive heard of 2 of them burning up on the freeway this winter, probably catching gas fumes or something. I wonder why the hell anyone runs it going down the road any way? What is the point? Was always more of a, turn on after the ride and hang out perk for us, or when we needed to work on sleds in the trailer.

Mine has burned up 2 furnaces and I've used it 1 time. When I bought mine from Western Trailer in Rifle, Nate sold me on the idea of turning on the furnace when you leave town so when you hit the mountain the sleds are warmed up and getting ready is toasty. And I met the rep from TW at the snowshow in 2012 and he kept raving about its ability along with burandt stating how nice it gets.

I am on my 3rd furnace on my 2014 snowcheck version and I haven't had it running while driving. One time I tried but the furnace had already was failed. My pups were in the trailer and I opened the door to a bunch of smoke. The second time I tried to use it, I was on vail pass. I was parked and it was windy outside and the exact same thing happened as before, a small fire of some sort friend the system. It is currently in Idaho getting looked at and another new furnace installed. It is peak season and I have never had heat nor my trailer to enjoy this year. Unreal.

I ran all of last season and this season, running mine while driving down the road. It is very nice to change in a warm trailer on a cold morning. Typically when' we get home the sleds are all melted off. So I open the doors when we get home to let the moisture out, and the next morning were ready to go again. Have been very pleased with mine.

I've never had any issues with using my furnace while traveling with my 2013 28' GN Burandt Edition.

RV's have been running their furnaces on the road for decades, I don't think it's a furnace issue as much as a cargo issue. I would think it's the gasoline/vapors in the sleds that is causing random fires.

That's what would worry me also.

I have a 2014 trails west 28 footer goose neck.I have ran my furnace while towing with no problems yet. I do however notice the floor ducting that is supposed to blow air isn't working very well. There is however little plugs that you can plug every third whole or whatever to make it blow more air. They were in the packet of stuff when I bought the trailer. The vent up by the nose that can blow by boot rack blows a lot of heat. I can get the trailer up to 60-65 degrees pretty easily after about an hr and a half of running heat. That's pretty comfortable imo. One thing you have to realize too, when you pull five frozen sleds in the trailer it isn't gonna recover that fast it's like five big ice blocks in there. All things considered, the build quality in itself is second to none on the trails west. I've pulled my trailer in 65 mph winds and it pulled very good in those kind of conditions. Sound system is pretty nice too.

2014 20ft rpm trails west snow check burandt .I am very happy with the trailer don't run furnace going down the highway get back home crank it up or crank it up at the hill. Dry boots gloves coats etc melts the sleds track melt works great. Today though the furnace wouldn't start slammed the seat cover over the top of the furnace and it started. I hope it's not a short somewhere . I'll keep an eye on it.

Have you ever tried to put 3 long track sleds inside?

if you backed the 3rd one in backwards it should fit no prob.

as for driving with furnace on trails west just sent me a letter stating not to do it anymore.

I know that in the owner's manual for the furnace it says not to drive with the furnace running. On a side note, I installed a larger furnace and added a duct through the aluminum furnace enclosure. After installation I ran the furnace and within a half hour the thermostat went from being bottomed out, up to 62 degrees. The original furnace couldn't have done that in the middle of July.

Did you talk to shane at Trails west or take it upon yourself to do it? Mine cranks like crazy, it gets hot quick. I'd say in 5-10 min it is hot.

Hillside I have not tried to load three yet , I think the only way it would work if at all is all three loaded from the front? Glad your heater is working Trails West should have put the larger heater in to begin with. It does take a while to heat mine up .

I just received a fax from Trails West saying to not use the furnace, not just while driving, but not at all! They said they are working with the manufacturer to fix "the defect" in their furnaces but do not use them in the mean time. It says the problem could result in a fire.

Old thread, but looking into possibly ordering a Trails West trailer...did they solve the furnace issues with minimal inconvenience, or was customer service falling short?

I'm wondering the same. There's a small chance I would buy one. I've heard that a few problems have been resolved. A new furnace to deal with this threads issue, something to resolve the ice buildup in back and a couple other issues. I can't afford to spend $16k+ if the damn thing won't work right.
