whittier?

has anyone been riding in whittier yet? It seems like everywhere on the peninsula is crap right now.

Went to Whittier today and put the trail in .... kind of a narly job, challenging but fun. The snow is deep and wet and heavy but we had fun even with the snow coming down like mad on us

[/IMG]. If the lighting was better we could have really gone in alot further and still have been in safe terrain even for this time of year.

ive never actually ridden there. I might try it sometime this weekend though. Is the snow plenty deep?

True that, very unforgiving place... would be a crappy place to break down too, with all the hills u have to climb...

Ditto, every slope is capable of a slide. At one point in 02/03 the entire trail going up was covered by avy's. Awesome place to ride, just be aware of conditions and all the terrain traps.

I think I should be fine as long as you think a 600 rev with a 121 will get up the hills. haha

That place has big avy danger and alot of cliffs that lead to creeks. Two years ago we rode in and just pass the point I turned around to head back to the truck because I forgot my camera and the trail we were just on was covered in slide debri. We were just a few minutes from being hit by a slide. So be carefull.

Leave the short tracks at home. You WILL have a very bad if you try to ride there right now. If you have never rode Whittier before then I would wait until you can ride with some who has. It is suicide if you ride in bad visibility or get next to any of the mountains or down in the creek bottoms. This time of year stick to the trees and do not try to get up onto the glaciers or your body will be found next summer after the avys melt.

The deep, wet, heavy snow sets up instantly into concrete. Carry your shovel in your backpack. If it is strapped to your sled and you get separated from it then you will have nothing to dig yourself out with and again WILL have a very bad day.

went to whittier today

yes it was way windy in whittier but we went up any way turned out to be awesome and deep and found a place with no wind
