Whistler - Pemberton 08-09 official report

What a day . Went up the hurly instead on the Icecap. Took about 3 hours to break trail up top. Waist deep snow at tree line but the winds hammered the alpine. You could still see old sled tracks from last week were it was hammered. Just played in the trees and had a blast. Even with this big dump there are still rocks showing and I clipped two, one pretty good that sent me over the bars but no damage. Probably was stuck more today than the rest of the year. Some spots had a stiff wind slab that was easy to get stuck in.

Bluebird Day on Sproatt today but had to go a ways back to get unmarked snow from all the people who rode there yesterday. Tracked to death until you get back to Rainbow. When we got back to the truck today there had to be 50 trucks in the parking lot! Does anybody work anymore?! :)

Day was cut short though with one of the guys having to get a chopper ride back to Pemby with a blown motor on his XP. (Yes Graveler....an XP with a blown motor!) ;):beer;

We had a great day. Got up Bwine early. Went up top and played in untouched snow. End of day went to Metal Dome and found a few untouched spots. Sled is ready for service now. Looks like the clutch faces have hair line surface cracks. Belts making some noise too but other than that it ran well. Time for venting for sure. Maybe an MBRP too so I can adjust my chaincase without taking off the BRP suitcase each time. Get your brake fixed?

Snowing in the hills around Squamish as we drove down so tomorrow could be good if you are going.

There was some knee deep light stuff still up the Icecap. Didn't see another group untill after 2. Bluebird day in the morning then started to sock in around 3. Only 1/2 dozen trucks at the trailhead.

Update

Wow no updates for over a week. I've been out every day for the last 2 weeks, and the conditions have been pretty decent. Hurley area is still good in the deeper snow zones - staying cold up top and snow is holding up really well. The Road is a different story - solid ice for the first 10 km, saw 4 different sleds blow up on the same day. Ice cap has been great except for the -25 cold snap that took the end of my nose off. Some areas were pretty wind affected, but were it was blown in was great. Saw some big pulls last week. The groomer with the mogul masher drag did a great job of taking out all the whoops. Looks like a decent sized storm coming this weekend too.

Thanks for the update. Riding the Hurley zones Fri-Sun. All sleds will have scratchers in our crew. Hopefully we will get some snow out of the incoming system.
