Ok fellow riders, We are planning a trip for the 14 season to Whistler, BC. We are from Dickinson, ND we should have a grouple of 5+ riders going, looking for info on places to stay. Cabins/House to rent. We plan on doing a 10 day trip 4 days for travel and 6 for riding. Please help us get prepared on lodging, and things you would bring for extra, as we have heard Canada is very expensive for parts. Parts, Tools, Fuel, Equipment, Cash. We will be bring two trucks/trailers both trailers heated, for repairs if/when needed. Thanks in advance. We been saying for 5 years we gonna go so we wanna start planning and get everythign in stone ASAP, NO EXCUSES FOR GUYS NOT SHOWING UP THEN.

Big trailers don't work very well there, unless you only want to ride out of brandywine. Everything is a lot more exspenive. ( a new xm belt is $212 with tax, gal of oil is $49.99) We've stayed at the Sandman in Squamish two times and it is new, clean and very reasonable (89.99/night for two queen beds). Riding is epic and worth it. If you really want to have the best riding of your life, call Geoff Kyle and ride with him. Fantastic time and worth every penny.

Whistler... one of my favorites.

First off... NO one in your party could have ever been convicted of a DUI in the states or they will not be allowed into the country.

You will need your passports... not just birth certificates...plus proof of ownership on all the sleds. Have your reservations for lodging printed out etc.

Don't bring in too many parts/accessories that are new in box or have tags on them.

Some questions ask the whole group... Will you all be sledding? Are wives/kids that don't sled going to be in the group?

The riding there is so vast that it is best to hire a guide for the group IMO... It makes your stay easier.

Jorli Riker and Geoff Kyle have great operations there and are locals for a long time. ...

Edit: Chris Brown also has Tenure there as well and the reports back from people that I trust say the experience with him was excellent.

All riding will be trailer-to.

Your choices for staying are South of Whister in Squamish, Whistler and Pemberton.

In Whistler... Parking is not so easy... but doo-able in the public lots. It is a great village, but expensive with a progressive younger crowd..

North of Whistler, Pemberton... growing but still small. One place to stay IMO... Pemberton Lodge... Fast access to the Rutherford... 1/2 hr drive to the south for the put-in at Brandywine.

Ski Doo Parts/help... easy ... Polaris, not so much... quite a drive in fact.

Husky in Whistler ... 94 octane Regular... not sure on the Non-ethanol route though...Race gas can be a PITA and the border can be easy or hard-azz and turn you away if you are bringing drums... Have had it both ways.

Make sure you have good goggles for flat light... yellow lens.

You are in for a great time....

What sleds?

Age Group?

Enjoy night life?

Traveling that far, and with a year in advance, I would just save up the extra cash for the expenses. Everything costs a little bit more. Fuel, food, lodging etc. It is a resort town with nothing close by. I would bring the obvious, belts, oil, plugs, wear and tear items. But the other stuff you are gonna have to deal with. No reason to bring a bunch of spare stuff if you have to buy it, unless you already have spare parts lying around. I have stayed at Chris Brown lodge a few times and it is wayyy legit. But like stated above, the only place you could park trailers will be Brandywine. Which is a fun spot to ride out of, but if you making the trip you would most likely want to look at riding a couple areas and seeing the most that you can.

Generally speaking...if you can swing the cash and/or find a good deal on a hotel. And they have parking for your trailer. And you have never been there. And you aren't staying at a sled lodge.....

Staying in or as near to Whistler village as possible is way fun. Nice hotel choices, tons of great food spots, good partying, good scenery of the non-mountain variety ;). If you can put up with the ski-bro crowd and want to be in the action, I've never stayed in Whistler village and had a bad time. I would try to do at least a couple nights there if you are into any of that kinda stuff....just an idea.

For next year, Sproatt and Seagrams will also be pay access like Brandywine and Rutherford ($20/person/per day) and they will also be plowing roads/clearing parking lots.

Trailers are a pain up here but by no means are they impossible to take to all areas. They're just a pain and nobody up here trailers. Bring beer/booze as Canadian liquor is twice as much, same with gas. There is no non-ethanol gas in Whistler, only squamish and pemberton.

Make sure you all have avy gear/know safe mountain travel skills. This is the REAL DEAL. You break down back there, you're not in cell reception. If someone gets hurt you're HOURS away from a hospital/evacuation. There are large crevasses and creeks and areas that if you drop into you're not getting out of. Find someone to show you around and be smart out there.

Chris.... Riding Rainbow was some of the best riding I've done... I'm not at your level but the riding was off the hook.

Is Ray the person you introduced me to at Puyallup that runs the Heli-Sled operation on the cap?

If there is going to be a cost to park to access Seagrams, there better be a lot more parking available. Right now, if you don't get to the base camp early, you're not getting a parking spot or riding a LOT of gravel/coarse rock. Regardless, I'd pay to ride Tricouni or Seagrams any day. AWESOME places for sure.

Most every one is saying no trailer is a better option....so sled deck...just seems cost effective for us to bring trailers. So you dont ride out of where your staying is what i gather from everyones comments....Damn looks like i gotta buy a deck from toyup now...:face-icon-small-ton Our group consists of mostly guys 23-30, but have some a few in the 30-50 range, but we are down for a good time...we are on vacation!!! what are the rules from bringing alcohol across border!

Some one mentioned something about fuel barrels, i think it was mountainhorse. will they ? our service tanks of diesel for the pickups? or just race gas?

You don't absolutely HAVE to have decks, but it is the easiest for sure. But spending two grand on one for one trip I might look another route. Like said some places you can park, but others if you do get a trailer parked you will ride road for a while before snow…

I believe that you can bring one liter/fifth across with you each way? Could be wrong but you are not supposed to bring much. You can find those little details on the border crossing website. Or call the border you are gonna cross and ask. Some people are lax about it. As for slip tanks or service tanks they most likely won't hassle you on these, they are more looking at race fuel barrels as they try to cut down on people buying race in the states and bringing it up to sell in Canada.

If your absolutely sold on getting a deck, check out a Blown Motor Edition ;)
