Before replacing the pump, check for any restrictions in the fuel system. I had problems with the pickup lines inside the tank disintegrating caused by ethanol fuel. Also check the fuel filter for possible plugging. I could hear the fuel pump whining with the engine idling. After correcting above problems fuel pump no longer whined and did not need to replace it.
