just picked up a 2012 pro 800 rmk with 980 miles on it. Runs great think im going to just go ahead and put pistons in in just for peace of mind. not looking for performance upgrades just want it reliable. im leaning towards rk tek. but ive also used spi in the past and had great luck with them. anybody got some real world experience with them. seems to be a ton of keyboard experts and not a lot of people that have actually done it.

Wiseco SK1396. $206 on Amazon.

500 trouble free miles so far, and it comes with all of the top end gaskets. I talked with a local shop a while back that has put several SPI pistons in without issue, but I would still do the Wiseco kit. You want as much durability as you can get to prevent the pistons from rocking. The forged Wiseco pistons are gonna be more durable than the cast SPI pistons.

wow that's cheap! I see a lot of kits have the thick base gasket in it do you think that's necessary? thanks again for the good find!!!

I went with the MTNTK kit and I am happy with the results so far, sled does not vibrate as much as before. Also they are the pioneers to come up with these fix it kits.

I dido the MTNTK kit. We've installed 4 of these kits in 2 Pro's & 2 Dragons, and that really breaths life into those 800's! First one has been in 3 years and going strong. Longer piston squirt to help eliminate slap & vibration. Little over $500.:face-icon-small-win

MTNTK. Period.

Lost track of how many kits have my hands on them and not one comeback.

If you find a cracked cylinder skirt, then for the cost of IndyDans setup makes it hard to turn down.

The Wiseco kit comes with a new base gasket. If you're referring to the 1/4" spacer that several kits use, no it's not necessary. The spacer came about when someone discovered that better Arctic Cat pistons would fit in the Polaris 800. The only difference was that the Cat piston was 1/4" taller. So, they came up with a spacer and it sort of stuck.

I put a mtnTek with Wiseco forged pistons on 2010 800 CFI4 and used a SNOW-X kit with their Cast pistons on my 11 PRO 800 CFI2 and to this point no issues on either one. My personal preference is Cast pistons of the right alloy. After break in and at all times , make sure to do the warm up procedure each cold start. If you have the time and $$ send the Cylinder to Indy Dan and get them honed and don't forget to have Dan do your exhaust valve guilotines at the same time.
