Which sled for this tall guy?

Hi guys/gals,

Im a noob to sledding, but i have ridden a couple, just nothing too serious. The one machine i rode is a 98 yamaha enticer 2, and while its fun, its too small for me. Im 6'4" and i look like a goof on it. I went and looked at a 02 polaris vertical edge 800 and it looks like something that i should be ridding but im wondering if there is something better, comfort wise. Any thoughts?

I have also been reading lots about crank issues with the 800's, does that happen even when you aren't paddling up mount everst? Im going to spend alot of time trail riding, out in fields, ditches, deep snow if i can find it..... Again, total noob so please be patient.:face-icon-small-con

I am a big tall guy too, I love the fit of my Doo XP with a little taller seat. By far the best tall guy sled out there. IMHO The chassis first came out in 08. So its a littler newer than you have on your list.

Thanks man! I appreciate the imput. I was hoping for something cheaper, but i am kinda wondering if the amount i save is worth the possible repairs, etc. that i would have to risk by buying used.... We went for a ride today, (enticer) and it was ackward as all hell, just very uncomfortable.:mad2: Im definitely not getting a 2up sled.

don't let the 800 crank issue scare you off. It needs 150$ of mods to make it bullet proof via a Torque Arm and a Push Arm. You can go above and beyond with the SLP crank bearing (they have some cool name)

I have an 02 800 RMK that is a loaner sled. Has a 2" bar riser and bone stock for 4000 miles. Best sled ever. You could buy a great one for 2000, put a boss seat on if for 350, and bar risers for 100 and it'd be perfect for a big dawg like you.

I'm 300 pounds undressed, I ride a 2009 Dragon w/ a RSI 2.5" 15 degree bar riser and a WRP Assault seat, awesome set up!!!

I'm in the Yellow Jacket

I'm 6'8" and run a 07 M8 with a 7" handle bar riser and a BOSS seat and it's fine for me.

I wish I was only 150 when climbing a hill!!

We call our dragon crew skull crack.
2 of the dragon riders are new this year and progressing well.

I'm 6'3", 250 lb .... I have an 09' M8 .... the stock steering post was honestly about the right height for me fully extended. I put a 2" offset riser on it and it was nice for moguls but in off-camber situations I felt it put me too far away from the sled. Right now I'm running a solid steering post 4" over stock height and its about perfect. I have enough room I could go another 2" on it.

It depends on the sled, but I would say that 4-6" of rise for your height would be probably about right.

I also did the Boss seat, which was an improvement.

Also, if you're over 200-lb ride weight upgrade your rear suspension somehow :)

Thanks for the replies guys! I went and bought a 2000 summit 700 yesterday for 3k, has 2400 miles on it. I thought it was a good deal because pretty much every other summit 700 for sale had more miles and they wanted more money! I think i will be adding risers thou, other than that, its a blast to ride! Now if only it would snow in alberta!!!!
