Which pipe and can setup?

T
I just bought an 06 from a guy in town. It's had all the updates done to it plus a ton of lightweight stuff....HOLZ front and rear, lexan hood...but it has the stock pipe and can. I ride in the NW all mountain riding 5-9k. What exhaust setup should I go with? SLP set, Dynoport set? Or just an SLP can? (I can get one of those for cheap!)
Any advice would be very helpful!

I like SLP can and any of these cans...CPI, MBRP, Skinz, The Thing..

I don't care for SLP cans

CPI pipes I hear work well..doesn't require ecu flash either.

Never used a dynoport but I know they make good stuff

I have a MBRP up for grabs, sounds great, doesnt require a reflash, and you will be heard coming up the trail. Im just on the other side of the hill from you. Let me know if your interested.

Stock pipe is best Dynoport works well if ya find one.. no SLP can they break CPI MBRP are much better.

I ran an slp can for awhile it has good sound and made minor differences as far as performance, although it was a lot lighter and a much cleaner look also improved air flow under the hood because it isn't as bulky as the stock setup, but this year I added a slp pipe with it. required a $20 reflash at the dealer but I will never go back comparatively speaking it woke my machine up. better throttle response, better lows, mids, and high end. all in all I don't regret a dime of what I spent on my setup. if your patient and look around the swapmeet, ebay, and other sites you will find a good deal. total cost on my setup with reflash was 235. that includes pipe and can (used but in excellent condition)

I have a slp pipe and can and like the sound and feel of it. Going to put my cpi can back on though. It had a deeper sound to it when I had the stock pipe on it so gonna do the same with the slp pipe

just a fair warning...my slp and cpi can are very loud on my 06. and not a really deep tone either. i cut it all apart last yr to repack it and it really didnt help all that much. i love the sound of it but it is a tad loud.

the CPI stinger is my fav, next would be Skinz Ultra...both are awesome sounding..

BUT...the CPI is loud as heck, believe it or not, im certain they come with NO packing installed...i had a buddy remove the welds on the stinger can, pack the stingers with FMF dirtbike muffler repack and then rivot the cap back on (so he could just drill out and repack again) and it sounded MUCH better...wasnt as piercing...

just a tip!!

Leave it without the packing LOL..... That way people will get to know the sound of your sled. "Let it strike fear in the hearts of your enemies"

not really my enemies im worried about. my buddys got to the point were they hated givin me ski pulls out of holes cause it made there ears bleed. lol! still love the sound of it though.

I ran the SLP pipe and Thing can on my '06. Got the reflash and no issues. That sled ran very strong and reliable. Did not like the SLP can though. After welding cracks four times, I went to the Thing and never looked back.

I had issues with the slp can cracking as well until I built a custom mount for it rather than just springs its actually mounted into the stock rubber mounts both at the bottom (of course) and the two side mounts, then I used the springs to set tension and play limits, since I did that I haven't had a single cracking issue with my slp, ill try to get a couple pics up of that if anyone would like

I would like to see some pics of that I'm gonna run slp set up this year and don't want the can to crack.

my dad has a 01 mountain cat with a slp can witch cracked and just about fell apart i hear alot about these can cracking not a can i would prefer i have a 06 rmk 900 with the twin cpi stinger cans and it sounds like a beast i love the sound of it.. they know when im coming! haha i would prefer mbrp or cpi

CPI Pipe if you can find one, if not Dynoport. Stock pipe works as good as SLP.

Skinz UltraQ can, most durable I have tried without being overly Loud like the CPI or Dynoport cans.

SLP pipes and cans seem to crack a lot. I went through 5 SLP cans before I gave up on them. I also can tell a noticeable difference in power when using any can other than SLP.

Right now I have one sled with full SLP and one with CPI and Skinz ultraQ. the CPI piped sled will stomp on the SLP piped sled.

For the 2006 CFI-4 900 (866cc) engines.

I've had quite a few SLP 900 pipes on sleds... Some cracked.

The ones that cracked had parts that had to be forced together and held in place by the springs... With a bit of shimming here and there... and spending some time getting them shimmed up and tweaking brackets...they "rested" in the right position and were only drawn together by the springs... Which goes along with some of the comments above. No cracking on those.

That being said.. the CPi pipe I rand for a bit did seem be a better on top end as Z-Man says.

UNTIL.

You go with the whole SLP kit with head...

Same flash as the pipe/can alone... the head added a considerable amount of performance to the sled and was completely useable from the bottom to the top end with no reliability issues for the last 5 years. (though the orginal crank did go "Ka Blewey".

There are some great deals that pop up on this combo from time to time.
