Which One M8 153 or M1000 162

Totaled out the M8 in California Park last weekend. Looking at an M8 153 and an M1000 162. The question is which one? Will I see noticable difference in the trees and in the weight between the two. Money is about the same, just not sure which way I would be happier. Looking ofr someone who has been on both.

Thanks

%80 of the time I'm glad I bought the M8 instead of the M1000.

I don't do an awful lot of hill climbing however.

Traded on and off all last weekend with a guy between my 09 M8 and his 08 M10 .... i _LOVE_ the power of the M10, but it is significantly harder to manuever than the M8 IMO ....

2010 M8 153 is one impressive machine that's for sure! Hard hitting mill and nimble in the trees.

i have a 09 m1000 and like the power . but the guys i ride with ride 09 m8s and they also have good power and are more nimble . if u are a smaller guy u might be more happy with the m8. it also depends what kind of riding u do.

I am sure happy on my M8 153 I like the way it handles. I have never been on a m10 but i have ridden a rt 1000 with a 162 and it was definately harder to maneuver but still very fun i am not a very big guy but i was able to work it around ok

I had an 09 M8 153 last year. This year I am on an 09 M1000 162. I will say that the 1000 feels heavier in marginal snow conditions - like 8" of fresh over packed. In bottomless, I cannot tell the difference. It lays over and carves very much like the M8. On the other hand, the power delivery is totally unlike the 8. The 1000 has "instant on" power and more of it. One of the things I did not like about the M8 is it did not have the low end grunt like my old 02 rmk 700. It was way better than an M7, just not that impressive.

Also, is easier to remove more weight on the 1000 and add power on a 1000.

There definitley is a tradeoff. So far, I think it was more worthwhile going to the 1000.

Spring conditions may make me change my mind.

Depends on what kind of riding you are more likely to be doing. If you want to point her uphill and not look back then maybe the m1. But if you like to boondock and have something easier to maneuver still with a great amount of power go m8.

Not to throw a wrench in the mix, but have you considered an m8 162? I am 6'2" and about 225 and own both 09 m8sp 153 and 162. I thought that the 153 would be my favorite but so far this season the 162 has kept a smile on my face. I used to ride an m7 153 and thought 153 track length was the ticket but the 162 has changed my mind. Just a thought.:face-icon-small-hap

If your looking at a 2010, I would for sure buy an M8, it has 3 more hp than the 10 and is 30 pounds lighter.

I have always been told that the 162 in the M8 was too much track. I ride mostly in the trees, but will climb a little, but not my favorite thing to do. I love to bounce thru the creek bottoms, hence causing the dilemma I am in today.

There is 4" of difference in overall length between a 153" and a 162" ... it isn't that big of deal.

Basically, buy whatever your wallet allows ....

I have almost 100 miles on my new 09 M1000 SP 162 , and i cant stop talking about it . My 07 M8 has alot of light weight stuff and an 09 Twisted race gas kit , and i can toss around the 09 M1 way better than my 8 .

The 09 feels lighter than the 8 untill i turn the knob to 12 lbs and above . Last weekend i was trying to find hills the M1 could not pull off , and the snow was deep .

I now refer to my 8 as a ladies sled , my 09 is getting a race gas kit asap. And the 07 will be a loaner and a sled for the old lady to ride . The 09 M1 is alot lighter than an 08 .

Get an 09 162 M1000 and leave the M8, for the guys who like slow.:face-icon-small-dis

I have rode a few M's. I rode a 08 m1000 162. I really felt the weight in the front end. I like to ride trees hard and it took more to pull to get it to turn if you sidhill a lot. Coming down you felt the weight but it was managable. No problem uphill, it pulls. The 08 M8 162 was the same to me as the 08 M1000.

The 2009 M8 153sp high marked the 08 M1000 on some hill I rode in Idaho. I liked the M8 better if you stay stock.

I am sure the 2010 M8 is better.

Good luck.

I had a 2009 m1000 153 and i got a 2010 m8 162 snopro now and like the m8 way better i play in the trees alot with no trouble and u well like to new m8 better, revs alot faster and alot lighter if it was me i would go with the m8 162 just my 2 cents worth cheers.

30 lbs? Where did that number come from? In the same chassis the M1000 engine itself must be 30 lbs heavier? Think about that a minute.

I think the actual difference anymore is about 15 lbs. So buy your M1000 an slp pipe and can, drop the wieght difference to around 5 lbs and have 190hp:face-icon-small-hap

Either one is a great sled. Either one has more than enough power to get you into serious trouble. I personally would go for the tractor like torque of the M1000.

I had an 08 M8, still have an 08 M1000 with speedwerx set up, and now have a new 2010 M8 153.

I can tell a huge difference between the 08 M1000 and my new 2010 M8... I can't comment on the weight difference between the 2010 m1000 and the 2010 m8 but All I know is that comparing the 08 m8 and 08 m1000 the m1000 was a tank, pulls like a tractor like everybody says...

putting the same 08 m1000 motor in the newer chassis, minus the lightweight crank... still a heave beast, and the new M8 has 160ish hp out of the box. whoever said "put a lightweight can on it and blah blah lower the weight difference to 5 lbs" .... you are going to do all that to an M8 too, which has the M1000 suitcase of a can on it by the way... so anyway you cut it, the M1000 is always going to be much heavier than the M8. I love my new M8 with the 153, but I would like to try the new M8 in a 162 because I think it could easily handle it no problem. My 153 '10 M8 is a wheelie monster stock!

Anyways, sounds to me like you should rock a 2010 M8 and you can go with either the 153 or the 162... i don't think you will tell a difference in handling but the 162 will truck you up a bit farther.... my .02.

I have both a 2009 M-8 153 and a 2010 M-8 162. They are both great machines but you need to do some upgrades (SLP Setup) in the 2009 to make it pull like the 2010. As for the 1000 they sure have had engine problems! Safe money would be on and M-8!
