Which one and why

king cat with lightweight parts(tunnel/hood/seat)stock motor with all the bolt ons 170hp 162"

2005 skidoo rev 1000 162" 3oook new motor zero miles

or 05 m7 cat with 162"

was that a bad year for skidoo?

iam leaning towards the kingcat but the ski doo is priced well at 4k can.

i want the least amount of breakdowns;)

lets hear the opinions

#1...like riding a 4'x8' piece of plywood but good power

#2...like riding a 600lb hooker with an attitude (the attitude comes and goes but the weight is always there) and better powder

#3...easy, light, fun chassis that needs a bit more power but still probably the better of the 3 choices.

Guess it depends where & how you like to ride

I'm with Retodd, I'd go with the m7.

The 05 1000 skidoo had many issues, all have known fixes, but is that something you want to deal with.

I have no experience with the king cat so ?

I would narrow it down to the king or the m7. Depending on what kind of riding you do most. If you are in the steep and DEEP powder mostly go with the king. If you ride some trail and some powder, or maybe some more setup snow go with the M7.

Could not be said any better:beer;:beer;:beer;

the king can be made to ride more like an m for 200 bucks. has the best power to reliability for a big sled
the 7 is soft but good power for a 7 (more like a light 8) but a TON of fun in the trees. (and tough as they get all around)
there is a reason you don't see the rt for more then 2 years! just like the poo 900. But with all big motors you will have some fun with the power.

I have a bone stock 900 (o k modded to the hilt) and a stock m7 and love each for the money. but apples to oranges.
also the 7 will be the best bet.... and you can pick up a tm7 for about 6K.:face-icon-small-hap:beer;

is this your fist sled?
go m7

I had an '05 King...really liked it.

I still have an '05 M7...really like it.

I rode my buddy's RT1000...nice power, HEAVY, then it threw a crank on him :(

Which would I prefer? That depends...

-newer rider? Take the M7
-Bigger rider (over 230lbs)? take the King
-Like to shoot the hills? Take the King
-Like to sidehill forever and play in the trees? Take the M7
-Need a boat anchor after the engine blows? Take the RT1000

Both sleds are pretty darn reliable. I lost a chain on the King and had to rebuild the diamond drive on the M7, but that first year M7 was light with great power...

Interestingly enough, the King would normally beat the M7 to the top of the hill or in any race, but on just the right snow days, the M would take the King, which made it a really fun ride.

I currently ride a turbo Apex which handles very much like the King butdoesn't twist cranks or crack Y-pipes like my turbo M1000 did, so I really like it. I'll keep the M7 as a back-up or loaner sled for the buddy that goes with me.

If your a smaller guy id go with the m7, but if you weigh 220 plus id get the king and add a forward mount steering post. I rode a king for years with a 162 and all we rode was steep trees, any one who says they dont handle has never real rode one or cant ride worth a sh!t. If you want some thing thats smooth on the trail the king is not for you but stick in some snow and you wont be disapointed.

thx for the replys

have lots of experience with the steep and deep riding in the pemberton icefields.old sleds have been a 02 700 summit 151 and a 220hp 1050 cat triple in a ZRT .LOVED the cat power but the skidoo felt 500lbs lighter
I am getting back into it after 3 years and want a reliable climber.Iam 185lbs but am used to riding a triple so anything will feel light:D

iam going to stay away from the doo even though its a steal at $3900 can.

i cant seam to find a decent m series for less than 5K can.
thats all i can spent so looks like the king cat will work.

a ton of kk out there with a lot of goodies for cheap!....
there are many post on what to do to make the kk ride and handle a ton better.
just spend some time in the 1m forum.

For the price i'd go with the RT especially if its got a brand new motor (not just a top end) most brand new motors come with at least a 1 year warranty so that alone could be a selling point. with that extra 1100 bucks you could put some mods on the skidoo and build it up a bit. just an idea...instead of blowing it all on just a sled it'd be nice to have a little extra cash to hold onto. Also notice a huge majority of the people that posted in favor of the cats are cat owners...just a thought.

I would say the M7 or the RT. Both have thier places. I have never been too impressed with the king. takes lots of mods for them to out run most 800's. and like said before they are like riding a 4'x8' piece of plywood. or maybe even a 4'x12' piece of plywood! just my opinion. to each his own huh?

At 185 #s pluse gear I would go for the king cat and put a rider forward steering post on it. I weigh 140 #s dry and rocked a king cat first with a stock engine then a 1000 bb and never had a problem throughing it around. After I totaled it I went to a m10 which is a fun sled but I always enjoyed trading sleds with my old roommate for a few minutes and rigging it up on his king cat. The king cat runs strong stock and throw a slp single, can, snow eliminators, and the rider forward steering post on it and you will love it. yes it is not the newest but it has good reliable power and they are inexpensive.
