Which is the faster sled??

hello folks,
i bought a new sled last year a 2010 iq dragon 800 121 inch with studded track. my friend purchased a 2010 yamaha vector rs ltz gt 136 inch track she is stock and mine is stock. he is always after me to drag him but i never done it.. what will be the fastest machine here?? well it be close or well i win or will he blow me away haha.. i like to get prepared before i drag him haha.. thanks in advanced

I really hope you got this one in the bag...we are talking about two very different classes of sleds. Yours being, in this case, the big boy. But if you don't set up your sled correctly you could still be examining his rear bumper...

thanks. but how ever i dont think my sped is working correctly.. i can only get 109mph out of her. is there a easy cheap mod that i can do to giev her more speed.. maybe different plugs.. now i am running ngk iridiums brp9eix.

109 is very good for a stock 800 dragon. My modded 900 switchback hit 119. u can do a lot of things but plugs wont help u. and it all depends on where u r racing and what the conditions r. (distance, snow, ice) setup can make a HUGE difference.

suspension. engine. clutching. gearing. lol. what type of race r u doing? what elevation r u at? at about 1000ft. i found that for a straight drag on packed snow or ice the 800 dragon ran best with stock weights and primary spring but change ur helix to a 64/44.46 with a red/black sec. spring. remove the rear scissor stops. we were also runnning 23/42 gearing. slp pipe helps along with a head and a powercommander V. but that gets into a lot of money but that setup worked very well on a stock motor.

thanks alot but i dotn think i will be going much of dragging like that. i just mostly joy ride and play around.. i got a MBRP can/sliencer on my sled. will this do any performance for my engine to give her a bit more or is it useless? it is just the can i dont have the pipe

basically just noise. i would seriously change that helix and spring tho. my buddy has the 09 that he trail rides and it made a world of difference!

so will the mbpr pipe slow me down? if so i will remove it.. also i know this mite sound stupid but what is helix and spring? how do i change it and to what setting? i live in newfoundland canada i am only about 100-200 feet max above sea level

If youve never messed with this stuff before its probly not a good idea to touch anything. The can will not slow you down it just makes the sled louder. If i were u i would go race him and let us know the outcome. then we can talk about mods and if you're capable of doing them.

Assuming nothing is wrong in the setup, you should walk on him. Shorter track (although you have some rotating mass with the studs), bigger motor and lighter sled. If you loose, you better really look into how your sled is setup, or if you buddy has something he hasn't told you about (camoflauge turbo!).

U guys would be very surprised with these flatland yamahas. they go pretty good but not usually with an 800. i would put them with a 700 anyday.

109 on your speedometer will read at least 120 on his also, so if he says he's going faster its because yamaha has a compensation issue :face-icon-small-sho

I've seen the discrepancies in the speedo's verified by a stalker and gps several times.

There's always the old reach over and smack his kill switch move if you really need the edge!

Yamaha Speedos have read high for years.

I have an 800 and my wife has a 600..on a long road she is faster..she is geared for freeway driving and I am geared for the starting line...quick vs fast.

To hard to explain it all..you need to get a shop manual and read up on what the different parts are.. even with all things the same..how you come off the line will make a big difference. I raced with an old timer who was a pro racer..I cant help but hammer the throttle off the line...I dig and the track spins and the front end come up etc..he takes off and then slams it about 15 feet off the line...I cant do that no matter what. He could beat me every time.

If you want to go fast..get a turbo with intercooler..other than that you cant have bragging rights for one or two sled lengths. You have to have the person knowing not to ever attempt racing you again and only then my friend will you have truely won.

1 horse power costs around 300 dollars. Many things onlky make it lighter..more often the wallet than the sled.

Performance or "setup" is a combinations of many different things that have to work in harmony with each other. You really cant just bolt stuff on and expect much in return. Gearing and clutching are paramount in any setup. Stock clutching and gearing is always conservative to protect the OEM';s warranty period.
