Which Helmet Cam to Buy???

After watching some sled video's, not only am I ready to ride, but I want to film it too! So which is the best value for the money that provides the following features:

Compact
Lightweight
Battery doesn't die when it gets cold
Can shoot a video non-stop for at least 5-min.

Any suggestions?

We sell the VholdR and it's a very nice unit! No wires...self contained.

Wow.....how fast technology changes. Three years ago I had a 1,000.00 worth of crap in my pack to shoot good helmet cam footage.

That little cam for 350.00 is the way to go. Eric

The real question is what kind of quality is the video? I bought a similar product (all self contained in one unit) to take down to the sand dunes as a helmet cam and the video sucked!! I think the problem was that it had a low frames per minute recording because at speed the video was terrible, real choppy.

Vio pov1

The one i'll get hopefully before christmas is a VIO POV1, 720x480 resolution, 30 frames per second. www.helmetcamcentral.com now sells the system with a 110 degree wide angle lens. Plenty of options on how to mount the camera itself and you've got the remote control with the very cool "tag" function. See website to know more... it's the best rated helmet cam out there.

VholdR is definetly not a bad choice at all as well.

That being said, a helmet cam still remains a helmet cam, their focusing/image treating technology are pretty far from any good HD cam out there according to me... But they sure do provide unique point of view though !

I'm really wondering when somebody will release an HD helmet cam... Didn't bought one last year hoping somebody would release one...

I looked at all of them that were at the Puyallup Snow Show and this one was the best of the bunch as far as resolution, frames per sec, and simplicity:

hmm haven't seen that one..looks ok.

i still think the VIO footage looks better, and sounds better...along with the adjustability.
and, not reliant on a proprietery battery pack.

i think their rating audio at "high" is a bit over rated...most of the vids with sound were way over amplified (again if thats adjustable, then no problem) but it was distorted on my end.

i think my $ and vote or...let me say "personal pref" goes to the VIO w/ a wide angle lens.

although, i'll give it to the icam for supporting 16gb of Flash...but i'm assuming its not mSD??

i've used the viosport with the archos 80g hard drive for 3 yrs, i get 40plus hrs of video in a week. usually 6hrs a day with it on constantly. if you use the right lens and filters its not too bad , very stable picture( no bouncing) its no comparison to hd . i use a seperate hd cam for those special times when you filming others highmarking or playing.

I think for the money it's pretty darn good.

Vio Sport POV 1. Period.

I have a Vio Sport Adventure Cam 3 and Archos DVR for sale if anyone is interested. $450 and you're set up.

I'm gonng go big and go for the POV1.

i got my kit from www.helmetcamera.com im happy with it, decent price, picture is good (definatly not HD quality, but i dont think any of them are), i do like that if my battery dies i have an adapter that will run everything off of AA batteries. but IMO the VholdR seems like a pretty slick unit, mine can be a pita to turn on and off.

here's a comparison chart...keep in mind it's from the icam site, so some of the subjective items can be taken for what they're worth...but they do show the objective items, even if the competitor is better:

I still think the icam is the best for the $ (almost $100 cheaper than the VIO POV 1).

Disclaimer...I dont own either, so this is also part of my research to decide what to buy.
