Been looking for some info on the interwebby, and I actually can't seem to pull it up.

What frame does S&W classify the 4006 model as?

I believe they still classify it as a 1911 frame...i was looking at one here in a local gun shop and didnt like how heavy it is..

Interesting.

I thought there was a letter designation, like on the "J" frame models, for example.

A LOT of officers carried that as their duty pistol. Very popular!
I bought mine from a reserve deputy in 1996. It's got a trigger job and some polish work inside. Love it. ALOT!

J ,K , N and such are revolver frames.

The 1911 frame auto is made by many company's .

To me it really doesn't look like a 1911 frame cause it's missing some things, like the rear grip safety that I think most have and a few other things. I thought no matter the maker, the frame would be the same on a 1911? Maybe I'm wrong on this one (wouldn't surprise me I'm no expert that's for sure). Aren't all 1911 no matter the caliper, the same size frame and relatively like the same? This one looks shorter then all the 1911 framed pistols that I have seen.

I have the blued version with basic sights, the model 411 in 40 S&W. After Clinton's "It's A Crime, Bill" of 1992 (?) it became the 410 when all new pistols on the market were not allowed to be built with a magazine capacity of more than 10 rounds.

Great pistol, I took mine to the new indoor range in town a couple months ago, it still felt "just right" after not shooting it for several years. The Hi-point 9mm I bought last year I brought to shoot also just felt clunky and akward....

I have the same one and I love the way it shoots. I had to order a couple of magazines for and because it's not the 1911 they cost way more. So don't lose a magazine. LOL

I'm not to sure because I just started getting into firearms but the ACP pops into my head, as that was what the magazines were for.

And I like the weight. Keeps it steady, IMO.
