Which 660 is the most reliable?

Call me crazy but I am really considering selling my 2011 800 Pro for a 12 or 13 600 Pro and dropping in a 660 kit.
What I want to know is who has a 660 kit and which kit is it? I want to be a rider that rides and does not have to tune or wrench every day I ride. I am sure that I will be consulting Indy Specialties for clutching.

Im in the same boat, but i did sell my 2012 pro 800rmk and bought a 2013 pro 600! Reason i did this is because ive ridden the demo 600's the last two years and to be completely honest there wasnt a line i cut with my 8 that the 6 would not cut! I loved it and it was stock, so imagine the difference with a little work done to it and the reliability you gain.. Best part was stomping a great line and watching my buddies come up short on their 8's. : ) so thats why i went this route. We ride cooke city, and jackson hole a lot

This year im going with power addiction head, carls clutching and HPS can, next year ill go with the 660 kit... ive talked to Brad with power addiction and the reviews ive heard with their 660 kit has been impressive, but also heard alot of good about carls cycle kit as well , but i will be very interested to see how this thread goes, seems to be a few people out there talking more and more about these 600's. If it doesnt work this year i guess ill be praying for some more reliability out of a 800 for 2014!

I've had two Carls Cycles 660 kits - one in my '07 RMK 155" and the other in my '12 RMK 155".

I sold my '07 RMK a few years ago and the owner has 5k miles on it and still running strong. I saw it in the classifieds here not to long ago.

Anyways, I came from a stock '09 RMK 800, '10 Summit, '09 TD8, etc. I like the little big bore 660's - fun and fast reving. The bottom end grunt doesn't seem to be quite were the 800's are but I'm over all very happy with my setup. It's truly a pull and go setup. My only advice is that if you are planning on doing it this year, get on the list now because it takes time for them to bore, plate, machine the head and exhaust gullotines.

I would do another one.

we've had (2) of the carl's 685 kits (carbed motors) and they were reliable as stock. still have on of them (going on 6 years now) and its running strong as ever.

as far as engine development goes you cant go wrong with carl's

I dont know what to do!

Ive read a few threads like this now. Is the power of this 600 that insane where some people are selling there 800's to get one?! Im coming from 2010 polaris assault this year and im either buying 2011 pro 800 155 or i can get a brand new 2012 pro 600... I like to climb some chutes, play in trees, boondocks, launch off some good cliffs or jumps. what would be a good one for me. ive rode a 800 but not the 600... Im buying something this week!

The 660 kit has less torque than an 800. But there is less rotational mass spinning around causing it to be more flickable and some say it spools up faster but I think that is because of the feel and not actual time.

Definitely will have a better time playing in the trees.

Remember there is no replacement for displacement.

I did the same thing and decided on the 2013 600 also. The 2012 stock 600 went just as good as an 800 pro. It didn't have the torque (and it shouldn't) but it was a blast in the trees and just kept going to places it i didn't think it would go. Only thing I had to get over was my ego telling me "I need an 800!"
Reliabilty and price was worth it for me! Hopefully I don't regret it.

I bought my wife a 12 600. I like it but I did not get used to riding it enough. I do know that it would not climb straight up the same stuff that the 800s were going over with ease. It took me a lot more work. Is it fun to ride and easy to throw around? Yeah. However, I much prefer the 800 Pro. I don't have to work as hard or think about lines as much on an 800. I am 60 years old and I weigh 230 lbs. without any of my gear on and I admit to being a little lazy in my riding style. Therefore, the 600 doesn't work as well for me. A 660 or 685? Either would be better but I still like the torque of the 800s and I also like the 163" track a lot more. This is just my opinion after spending several rides on the 600. If I weighed 160 lbs. and I was 30 years old I might very well have a different opinion.

600 was the choice for this guy....I ride mostly in the back woods of the UP. Tight and light is what I needed and this fits the job to a T. I got 300 something miles on last year and it far exceeded my expectations. It felt like riding my motocross bike in the woods.

I do one trip a year out west to Togwotee. This year will be my first on a poo. I ride with all 700's or bigger. Everyone thinks I made a huge mistake with purchasing a little 6. This year I can't wait to out climb them and rub it in ever so.

Sometimes its good to be the underdog.

By comparing the hp to weight ratio of the fully loaded pro rmk 600 vs my 800 rmk edge with single pipe, the 800 rmk edge would require 195 hp to have the same hp to weight ratio. Which would jerk my arms right out of my shoulder sockets.

So lets see... The 660 kits that are available for the 2012/13 600 PRO RMK

Power Addiction Racing ??

SLP $2890.00 (complete kit price with pipe and Power Commander)

Carls Cycle??

660 rtr

does anyone have a price for a 2013 carls 660 sled that is already built and ready to ride? is it cheaper or more cost effective to do so? have several friends that have driven 500 miles to carls and purchased new sleds already modded. thats what i would like to do.:face-icon-small-win

660 or 800

It seems to me your spending a lot more money getting a 660 than keeping or buying a 800, although there are some engine problems the vast majority of newer 800s are trouble free. A big bore on a 800 would be close to the same $$$ as a 660 kit I'm guessing, I wish I had a pro any size, some day
