Which 174 track?

Going 174. X3, or a narrowed Extreme?

By looking at my 174-2.5-16 Extreme it seems that cutting a half on each side would put the paddles right on the edge providing the greatest traction. But the X3 seems to get great reviews. I have zero experience with the X3. Thoughts on these 2 options? I need to order one this week!

Get the 15" track. Cutting tracks should be a last option situation in my opinion. We have done a ton of them, but if you can buy the track in the width and length you want get it that way. Also, you will still have a warranty in case anything should go wrong.

How do they compare traction wise? I can honestly say I've never even looked at an X3. They are single ply so I assume lighter? Are the paddles as stiff as the CE. We don't always ride fluff. I've got the 2.6 85duro now and it does well. But just like anything else I want more.

I have an x3 on my 162 and have the old sawtooth CE on my 174. For the snow we ride I like the sawtooth. Neither is bad but we seem to get a lot of different layers in our snow which I think the ripsaw gets into better. If you don't have access to a saw or have never cut a track it's not the easiest. The X3 works very well, lots out there.

We are generally in the same boat as far as the layers go that's why I was considering the CE. I've cut a few tracks and it's not much fun but Tracks USA will cut it for 100 dollars before they ship it to me which is what I would do if I go that route.

Different sled but had 2.5 X174 and decided to try the the 3 inch.
Ran it one winter and switched back to 2.5
2.5 IMO is a way better all around track and is lighter.
My 2 cents
