im from minnesota and looking to go to the snowys the first wk of march. i've searched and researched, but cant come up with a place i want to stay. ive been to togwotee and cook. i like the riding in togwotee, and am looking for simular in the snowys. not looking to trailer or trail ride alot to get somewhere good. want to ride from my door. looking to spend about $100 a nite lodging for two peaple. looking for the closest place that has these conditions and ammentitys. please help!!!! thanks

We are heading out there next Saturday for the first time. I did a lot of reading and found tons of great comments about Winter Creek Cabins so we gave them a call. We booked a week with them and if things are half a nice as Mira sounded on the phone things will be great.

I would try ten mile lodge. One mile of trail your in the trees and a couple more and you can ride backcountry from there north off of U trail. I got alot of friends from MN that wont drive around the mountain cuz it's to far but you want to stay on the west side its way better.

IF you dont know the mountain dont do it alone, get a good guide, i recommend high altitude excursions out of laramie snowcross 338 on here. if your not ridding with someone that knows the mountain its not fun and can end up in some bad spots. its worth the money. and the old corral in cenntenial has great rooms in your budget.

x2 for Winter Creek. You will want to trailer to Greenrock at the top of the hill. Mountain Meadow Cabins at the top, but I don't think they have any fuel. Snowy Mountain Lodge at the top but they're closed this year

You will want to stay on the Centennial/ Albany side unless you want to spend 2 or 3 more hours on I80. Can ride from your door at Albany but is 16 miles of trail before the good riding in my opinion which sucks. Can ride from your door at Mountain medows but you will have to bring your own gas or ride to the Rendevous. Winter Creek or The Old Corral in Centenial are great places to stay as well but you will need to trailer a few miles up the road. There are also some other places to stay in centennial as well.

snowys

As was mentioned in another post it is wise to have guide as the snowys can be unforgiving if you don't know the area.but it can be the most fun you've had once you learn the area,snowcross338 has a good reputation and can make it a lot of fun. I'v been riding there since 1990 and if I get back there I'll have him show me some of his good spots !! He grew up riding the snowys. Right now Albany Lodge on the east side is the only ride out full service place to stay. There are several other good places to stay if you want to trailer up.

I'll vote for Albany Lodge as well. Just stayed there again this last weekend. Although I like riding out of greenrock parking lot the best since it's the shortest ride to the great stuff, the ride out of Albany isn't too bad right now since the snow is good and they seem to groom the trail every day so it's smooth sailing to the deep stuff.

I like to tow a Otter sled with gas cans in it and a cover on it to stash in the woods once I get up top. Also a good thing is a Muff pot to cook some food in so you don't have to drive back for lunch. Just stop in one of the two nice warming huts (which have woodstoves) for lunch. Then you don't have to screw around driving back for food or gas wasting precious sledding time.

Hopefully someone will buy the Snowy Mtn Lodge again and get that going again. Until then I'd stick with Albany lodge since they have all the amenities including fuel if you need it.

Great idea

Great idea Rev, I rode with a guy last year that had a hotdog cooker and we stopped at the Nelson Hut in a blinding snow storm and stayed there for a few hours. It was fun to have the warmth of the fire and the food.
