Where is the snow?

There is a group of 5 of us thinking of making the venture to Colorado curious on snow conditions we were planning on driving to Cooke City however forecast for there doesn't look so great? We aren't afraid to make the drive and aren't set to go any place in particular. Any insight on where a good place would be for some backcountry access? Thanks never been to Colorado.

The best snow is down in southern Colorado. North Co has decent but your still looking at bringing extra arms no matter where you are riding at this point. Snow just hasn't hit hard yet like last year.

Gmiller, you know how the snow is up north in the Walden area? Any info is welcome

THANKS

There is very little snow here, Walden's an hour from my house.

A freind told me that he talked to some college buddies who just got back and said the snow is pretty good. We are set to come out this weekend. Should I tell him he's crazy and its a bad idea??

He's from SD, yeah what is up there will look awesome. But to a local or everyday mountain rider it's meager, to say the least. Yeah, you can find good "pockets" but to get to those you have to run the gamut through minimal snow with a maximum of stumps, rocks and fallen snag. If I lived up there I wouldn't be spending my hard earned cash to travel ride this stuff.

Boston is right, bring a-arms, trailing arms, shocks and skis and a tow rope.

And to answer your question, yes. He's crazy and it's a bad idea. I hate seeing fellow riders come back down with trashed sleds.

One thing I'll say if you head that general direction, don't assume you can ride hard, even where you think it's deep, that WILL come back to bite you this year.

As a buddy said last weekend... there's 25" of snow, and some 23" stumps!!!

You can have fun, but the snow is blown into small zones here & there. get creative, don't settle for the first place you come to, do some looking around to find where it's worth riding.

The places I've been riding have some areas that are literally bare, yet we're consistently playing in pow, and having fun.

But yeah, if you come here without spare parts, you're asking for a wasted trip.

If you've got a poo or cat, bring arms, if you've got a doo, bring both sides, a nun, shocks, a bulkhead, a spare track or two, maybe an extra seat... and probably a few spare motors as well:face-icon-small-ton
