Backpack, trunk, or under the hood? I used to snowmobile a lot but got out of it for 10yrs, now I am back with a new M8- was told not to leave the cabin without a shovel... so where is the prefered place to store/carry the thing? Oh yeah I plan on getting a boss seat...

I pack my shovel and probe in the backpack. Wear my beacon under my coat. A lot of guys have put their shovels under their hoods, but I would shy away from that.

due to Avy danger..probe and shovel on you(backpack)..I also carry a shovel for digging out the sled on my tunnel bag(real quick and easy to get to)...pack wise I wear an ABS escape15 avy pack(more avy gear)..dont forget to pickup a beacon as well ..is mandatory for mountain riding....

SOS goon spoon ,probes and beacon on me and a second goon spoon and probes on sleigh

Everything with YOU!!! nothing on the sled. If the unthinkable happens - it'll be hard to dig someone out or dig your sled out if all your gear is attached to your sled.

On your back along with the av probe!! Becon on you. If you get caught or your buddies, you don't want to be searchin for your sled with the shovel in it. Aluminum shovel for diggin. If you have a lexan or plastic, go out to your yard and try to dig with it.

You should carry a shovel first for ave recovery and second to unstick your sled.

i think the cats have a place under the seat for a shovel, mines on a custom made tunnel bag,

yeah, keep it all in your pack.
has anybody ever straped a snowclaw on your back bumper with straps with buckles for quick way to move snow?

I carry the alum. shovel and probe in my backpack. I also have my spot messenger attached to the strap on my backpack.
I carry the polaris quick release shovel on the back of the sled for getting unstuck.

In your backpack on your body.....if your sled gets buried like this, the shovel that is strapped to it or under the hood does you no good.

I always have mine in a smaller Dakine backpack from my ski patrol days. Designed to hold a shovel and probes. I also carry an extra pair of gloves, an extra insulating jacket, extra pair of goggle, and gear to start an emergency fire. I also have a shovel with a wood saw in the handle. If I need to build a shelter or a fire the wood saw will come in real handy. I am always prepared to spend a night on the mountain.....just in case.

The boys in Sparwood said that they all lost their shovels after the second avy. Wonder if a wrist strap is in order. And to make sure you keep your jacket on and your pack. Food for thought.

Just like most said, I also carry my shovel in my pack. Gotta have it as close to you as possible.
