when is normal snowies first good ride?

usually go to the snowies in Jan - March. Want to get a trip in early Dec. this year. When can you usually count on decent snow?

Ask Mother Nature!! Some years you can get some trailriding in on the new sleds in the middle of Nov. I would not venture off the trail until the snotel sites show more than 30" Which that can be as early as early Dec. And I still would ride somebody elses sled!! LOL Keep checking the snotel sites at Sand Lake and North French Creek. They have hourly reports.

As said above, There is no "usuall" with mother nature. It comes when It comes man!

In the last four years I've ridden before holloween twice, and took out a trailing arm both times! It's not looking like that's going to happen this year, but probably for the better.

Usually by X-mas and new years there's plenty of snow to go anywhere you want with minimal risks.

I always shoot for that as first ride weekend. But it doesnt always happen either.

Like DC says watch the snotel sites and web cam's...., that will tell you what is happening in the back country...., nobody can predict/nail down when the first good ride is. I never have had a bad ride..., well at least not on a sled;
Weather changes year to year, day to day, hour to ....I forgot what I was going to say.

Are annual first trip West is the 2nd weekend of Dec. haven't been let down yet

2nd week in Dec can be a great time to start riding!! Usually the best snow early in the season is in the Wind River Range and buy mid Jan. the best snow is south in the Snowies and the Sierras. The Wyoming range can bet hit or miss all season long.

I went the second week of December last year. We found great snow and never broke anything either!!

Went December 10th last year, great snow and never hit anything, some of the small lakes and ponds can be a lil iffy? hopin to get another one by the 10th this year.
