When does the season start in ID.. on average??

A couple friends and I are from western WA. We have purchased new sleds for this season. I have heard great things about varoius places in ID to ride. We are looking to come over there mid November. Will there be enough snow anywhere to to ride? Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you want to ride on white rocks and logs, mixed with some barbed wire, come on over in november or december.

I MIGHT sled the big december storms, but pretty much wait until January for any big trips, Feb, March, April are when the real snow hits.

There are those that will tell you different, but they are also busy putting their smashed machines back together when the snow gets good.

Thanks for the input.. Hopefully its the winter they say its going to be and we get a ton of snow! I really dont want to mess my brand new sled up. Any sites you would recommend to check the weather and snow conditions during the winter for this area..?

Can normally start riding late November, last year it was the day after Turkey day I started riding. Christmas time is almost always good and powdery.

As for sites to check snow depth this is the one I use most frequent.

Here in S. ID we rode mid November on a road ride and by mid Dec we were off trail a little bit and by mid Jan we were able to go places.

Exactly, we usually take a tune-up ride after Thanksgiving, and rarely get in a "good" backcountry ride much earlier than late December. We've risked it a few times in early to mid December and been lucky enough that we bounced off the rocks and logs instead of towing each other out. Just keep an eye on the storms, after the 3rd or 4th big one it's safe. Just need to let it base up, lots of land mines over here.

In December we can go for a road ride to check out sleds. Much before that and the dealer is smiling all the way to the bank. But its nice to made sure everything works before the good snow storms dump. Of course the mountain we hit is 10,000 feet high
