when do i need a control box?

do i need a fuel control box if im running just a speedwerx y pipe, or the y pipe with a can? when should i b looking at getting a control box?
Btw its for my 07 M1000

From what I have read on here you should be fine w/that set up. You may want to check your fuel pressure to make sure it is in the higher of Arctic Cats range. I guess thier spec is 41 to 49. I bought my 07 1000 used with a y and can it had no control box. The fuel pressure on mine is 45.5psi.

Has it been reflashed? My mech. says with the old 07 program you can add a Y and can no problem. Since mine has been reflashed, he said he is leary at trying it without a fuel pressure regulator, or pressure at 48-50 psi.

Do yourself a $1500 dollar favor. Purchase a cheep set of Duel KOSO egt guages and put them on. Install them 4" from the piston skirt in the Y pipe. Ride your sled. If you see 1200 you better really watch it. If you see 1250 you need to do something now! When it hits 1300 you can hook up the tow strap and head back to the pickup.

No matter what you do you need EGT's or a way to monitor what the heck is going on. So bite the bullet and get them now and see what you got.

I installed the Koso egts on my 08 M1000 after i installed my Mbrp can and a Slp Y pipe and have found i hit a max of about 1200 degrees between 5000 and 6000 rpm. Will installing the slp pipe (i already have it) raise the temps from where i am at or do they usaully stay about the same? I plan on buying a box to do some fine tuning but if i can put the pipe on first and be safe then why not, right?

my sled has the 07 mapping on it still. and it looks like it has a egt sensor in the stock pipe already...but i will check again. Ok, so how do i check the fuel pressure on my sled?

It has a sensor in the pipe that isn't going to tell you what the temps are. That sensor is for the ECU only for fuel and air adjustments and stuff. You need a new set of gauges to see the temps.

As for fuel pressure you can get an inline guage and remove the line from the fuel pump, splice in a tee and guage, hook it back up and check it.

Like I said Black Diamond Extreme and Bikeman have some pretty good stuff for this that isn't priced out of this world.
