What's the story on an 08 D7?

Got a friend who is looking to get into a mountain sled after riding trail sleds for the past 10 years or so. He does a lot of ditch banging and river riding in NW Iowa, but wants to start making some more trips out west with us. He has ridden Polaris since he's been riding sleds.

He found a 2008 Dragon 700 155" with about 2,500 miles and asked me what I knew about them. I said I know very little, but I'd try and find out a little something.

Are these decent and reliable sleds? He's not the most mechanically inclined guy in the world, so he doesn't want to be doing a bunch of wrenching. Are these sleds easily switched from low to high elevation and vice versa? I recommended going with a little shorter track length, but he didn't really seem to think it would matter.

Please let me know, as I don't really want to lead him in the wrong direction. Thanks in advance.

the 700 was one of the good sleds

only thing u need to change to go the the Mt's is Primary Weight change.

they easily compensate to elevation changes due to them being fuel injected...also i dont think the 155 track is too short...i would never want a sled that was much shorter

The 08 700 is a very good piece of machinery. Solid performer. seeing you are flatlanders you may want to have a different gear set for flat trails vs mountains. Nothing worse than going topend on a trail with all the other short track 600's blasting past you all day long. Just the same on a steep hill in deep snow like Cooke City,MT where you may be close to, tall gears wont be the best set up.

None the less if the sled was maintained well then it may be just the ticket..Personally I would want a 144 for an all terrain sled. Faster track speed for the flatlands and 144 does well in the hills also.

d-7's kick azz !

Great sled everywhere , run mine in the mountains allways there with the 8's .
Never worry about the motor , and allot of fun... Stick with the 155.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I have heard that the 700 is a good sled. I talked to him tonight and it sounds like he is going to try and buy it. I just hope it keeps up with the doos :face-icon-small-win

If anyone else has any input, please feel free to comment.

i have a 07 D7 and love it. kinda wanna get a blown up 800 assault and put a 700 cfi in it as a second sled

Funny you say this, because the one he's looking at has SLP twins on it. I guess someone else thought the same thing as you.

mine frickin rip no way in hell i would ever go back to a single, mine are for sale actually my whole engine might be, thinking of going to the darkside with a big tripple

My buddy just found out that the D7 he was looking at is sold. He now found an '08 700 RMK with a lot less miles for about the same money. What are the differences between a Dragon RMK and a non-Dragon RMK? As stated earlier, I know very little about Polaris. Is it kind of like the difference between an Everest model and X model Summit, or a standard M8 vs. a SnoPro M8? Any help is appreciated.

Main difference between the Dragon and the RMK is the shock package. The Dragon has the cheap Walker Evans air shocks and the RMK has the Ryde FX shocks. The WE's are 1 1/2 lbs lighter each vs. the Ryde's, which have the springs over the shock housing. Lot of guys have had trouble with the WE's and threw them away and got replacement shocks.

I had an '08 D7 and sold it with 2100 trouble-free miles on it and the guy who bought it just loves it. I picked up an '09 700 RMK and it runs just as good as the '08. And I like the Ryde FX shocks much better than the WE's. At least you can adjust them.

It's to bad that Poo canned the 700 motor. Very few issues and really not that much less HP than the 800. Would have been nice if they had offered the 700 in the Pro chassis.

Tell your buddy to go after the 700 RMK especially if it's in decent shape. He won't regret it.

Agreed! 700 RMK is fine. The Walker Evens in 08 are junk..The stock shocks on the RMK out perform them IMHO. Hood Color is different.but then the 08 has a Red hood that i am not fond of and I own two.

remember any sled is better than no sled (Yamaha one tons excluded):face-icon-small-hap:face-icon-small-hap

other than the 07-08 outside crank bearing will wear on shaft and will work its way off and push the crank seal out causing a lean burn down on pto side there pretty good motors, but i can fix the crank for little money.
