Like the title, what is the difference between the 02 1M 6 and the later 1M 6? Chain case roll, or are they pretty much the same through those years? Thanks in advance for your info..
The 02 wasn't a 1M, The 1Ms came out in 03 except for some early 02 1/2 900s. The differences are the drop and roll chaincase, lighter A arms, the lighter easily removable seat, and lighter heat exchangers in the corners of the tunnel so the track doesn't need to be notched.
IdCatMan is correct, and those are the changes that happened for the '03 model vs. an '02. In addition to that, I believe the '04 also got a few more tweaks, though I can't identify them all. Here's a quick article I found: http://www.snowgoer.com/output.cfm?id=188767
Looks like big wheel kit and composite chaincase were the weight shavers.
In the end, there were some big improvements going from '02 to '03, and some minor ones from '03 to '04. Then nobody bought any '04's because the '05's were going to be so much cooler, so people like me got sweet deals on our non-current '04's that are actually a good chassis setup.
I know my '03 570 Mountain Cat was a better ride that the 550 RMK trail, which really isn't a mountain sled. It was a little better than the Ski-Doo Summit 550 too, though it steers heavier than both. (I have decent time on rental 550 RMK's and my friends Summit 550.)
I still like my '04 MC600EFI because the chassis is so forgiving and easy to ride. It also turns out to be lighter than an the early M6's, which is nice!! But I am ready for an M8. A nice '09 still in the box next fall is my plan. )

Are there non-current 04's in the box out there? Would be interested in a 1M 6 and possibly a 1M 9,,,,, O5 king in the box would be cool! In black preferably. Only have about 8G's to play with at most would rather keep the price at 7G's if possible.. Oh ya! Thanks for the info on the 02mt. cat,, kind of what I figured.
The '02 is what I would call the Mountain Cat chassis. Not the same as the trail sleds, but not a 1M either. It has a slight drop and roll over the trail sleds.
All the Mountain Cats and 1Ms are ZR3 style, the main difference in the frames is just the chaincase location.
I for one can't believe that the 04 were roughly 8.5 lb's lighter? Maybe the chaincase being plastic and a spoked lower gear in there? As for the KK being 21 lbs. lighter?! Maybe 15 lbs. lighter than the std. model? Titanium springs 7lbs. lighter, Spoked lower gear 1 lb. max, Lighter 6 post drive clutch, Lighter track by roughly 4 to 5 lbs. over a 151, Shorter bolts in a few places and maybe a lower windshield? Did the '04's KK have the raised triangle skid, Or did the straight flat skid replace it that yr?
