Whats the best oil for a APEX? and how the heck do you change it??

Gonna change the oil in the Apex and looking for a write up or??? on how to change it...Also what oil are you guys using??

Sorry for all the question from the Newbie Ive been searching around the site and haven't found much on the questions i am asking

THANKS!!

it is a pain!!

Having just done this on my apex I can promise you it is a pain in the butt!!

u need to drain the oil from under the motor and also from under the dry sump.

to get to the oil filter u need to remove the airbox and the battery oh and also the battery bracket. Getting the airbox off is fun. you need like a 24" extention on your allen wrench to reach the clamps.

good luck

Ok thanks guys,I already got the sled all torn apart changing the plugs and re routing some boost lines so i wont be able to restart it to get the oil warm to drain it...Is that going to be a issue?? Also in the Manuel it says the oil filters good for awhile and the previous owner supposedly just had it changed Do u guys think i would be ok just changing the oil??? The oil looks really clean but smells gassy....

For what it's worth, our group tends to use the Mobil 1 0-40w. Easy to find at the autozone or checker-O'reilly or whatever's near you.

I use the Yamalube, but it can get kind of thick when it's real cold.

I'm gonna do the synthetic route this year after reading another thread on here.

As far as the filter is concerned, it's pretty straight forward once you dang near tear the whole engine down (Airbox, battery, and battery mount). I was considering an oil filter relocation kit from Ulmer, which is supposed to make the process real fast.

The filter relocation sounds like the way to go,What weight oil is the yamalube u use? And what weight does the book call for? Im assuming the 0-40w is for cold starts and cold ace weather...

It calls for 5W-30 Yamalube. Little too thick in my opinion.

I'll pull the pages out of the manual and send them to you in a PM, I'll also send the info I have for the relocate.
