I was wondering if someone could tell me the advantages of gutting the stock air cleaner. Do i need to worry about the sled running any different? and how do i go about doing it?

air box

BETTER AIR FLOW / Just take the screws out of the top and take all the crap out. THE SLED WILL RUN BETTER.

To make the sled quieter to meet sound regulations, just like all the foam under the hood.

this may be a stupid question, but does anyone take the foam out? and if so how hot does it get, and would aluminum heat tape be enough?

On the side panels I just used a putty knife or whatever they are called for mudding walls. Scrape the foam off then cover wherever you didn't put vents with the heat tape.

Gutted mine, rode for first time this past weekend. The baffles removed did make the sled allot louder. In rider position it sounds like my exhaust is on the left side of the sled.

Before it BBrrrapps, it sounds like a tractor.,, And the BBBRRaaap, comes from that intake on the left side.

According to what I read on Dynotechs web site when the sled is is stock form removing the air box completely gained something like 11 HP so thats a pretty good indication of how restrictive it is. Now you cant ride the sled without an air box, as you dont want to suck in crap from under the hood with the hood on and such but gutting the box definitely does help also opening up the restrictive passage in the hood to help flow more air to the box helps a lot too. I dont remember how much better the sled performed with the gutted box, but I know that it was enough of a gain to make it worth the extra intake noise. I dont honestly think a whole lot of thought went into air box design's besides how to make them somewhat function and make them quiet.
