what's tested latest on 09's

the season now has enough snow so the quest for what works the best continues. as is normal the testing takes well into the new year as a rule .takes time to test all that is out there .

so far if one stays with the secondery sec spring we have found that reducing the helix angles used gains some in lost heat to the system as in a 40/44 . , next we are trying a 38/42 as well as useing a lower straight angle set up ie straight 40 and straight 38

we have the tranny running in the mid 140 degree temps , far from the stock 240 f temps .have been playing with some lower gear in the system at the same time as well.

have had the poor solenoid scenario hit us in mid testning as well . chitty
ask your doo dealer there is a bulletin on it

what were trying to achieve is getting the sec so that we can now load the primary up to finish better as the tra is a poor finisher and hits a wall as a rule . limiting track speed at an unacceptable level .

starting to really like the reverse helix in the set up .

remmember it is a balancing act between the two clutches .

heres the best to you all in the christmas time and have a happy new year

Al - it sounds like you are using the reverse helix to battle the limitations of the TRA???

I was going to ask you about your helix numbers being backwards - but it looks like you actually LIKE the reverse angles??? I'm surprised. it does seem like you are finding the stock 09 reverse angle much too steep though. how about the stock springs Al? Are going stiffer or softer?

And the ramps? are you putting the 08 ramps back in?

Turboal

Keep up the experimenting with the parts--as always you will hit the combo as usual. What do you think of the new secondary?

We should be up to see ya next month--I hope---If not in Febuary.

Have a great and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!:D

well any time doo does something off the wall then i always wonder .it only made sence to me that with to high a helix angle the squeeze is diminishing , so i figured a drop in range was in order .
the 40/44 gave improvements on temps and clicker number used .
next were going lower to get to a point were we can start to use the stuff in the primary that i know works in there to get a much longer useable range.

gearing down is never out of the question but in this case we want to see were we need to get to in the angle range.to achieve the correct squeeze to drop temps from the slipping that is goin on .

testing of the shock wave helix is soon in the works ,

so far we see the transmissions oporateing range stock at between 120 f and 240 f were the belt says enough and blows out of there
we are seeing that this transmission needs to oporate a higher temp than the older 166 belt ran at. it liked no more than 120 f, typical of a softer compound. this 377 compound will want a higher temp but not the 240 range . shows best so far at 140 to 160 f.

shooting the clutches with an infared heat gun help determine were the slip is originating from.and is very informative.

typically it takes into the new year to run all we want to run to see what is the best.
last time out we geared the 154 to a wopping 19/49 and saw the transmission temps drop 75 degrees . more to come but the lower range of reverse helix angles isnt built, doos has two choices presently and arent in our useable range for the 154 yet.

al,
what is the "poor solenoid scenario" and what does the bulletin address.
i just want to ask the right questions at the dealer because they seem
to never volunteer info. thanks

2009 clutch

Turboal I have a 2009 summit x800r 163 the stock helix is 43/47 is this what you were seeing the high transmission temps from. How does it perform with the 40/44? Track speed?

just dawned on me today when i was pulling a set of solenoids out on the 09 that they werent heated as the 08 and 07 ones were , likely why these ones were froze up.
the stock 09 high temps on the clutches was 240f , with what we have in test mule 1 , we were at 140f , that was with a 40/44 helix and 19/49 gears . wasnt a good test as the solenoid was acting up and wasnt letting us get the top end out of the motor. have them drying over heat tonight, pulled them and sprayed them with wd 40 and then checked them with some power to see if they clicked , good to go now , as they clicked when power added. hard to tell if there was any moisture in it or not .
know tommorow when we run it , couldnt get it to pull over 8000 no matter what we tried . see in the morning if its better.

What do we mean 07/08 heated and 09 isnt?
When we say spray with WD40 on the solinoid where are we spraying it?
has any one heard about some wiring rubbing by the voltage regulator?

The red voltage regulator wire rubbing on a rivet has been on dootalk a number of times last season and again this season. Stops sled dead in tracks, no matter where you are.

Have slight memory about a solenoid problem from dootalk last season but don't know where its at or what it does. Thinking somebody came up with auto parts store sub for it.

Good Luck
