whats it worth 2005 159 blown engine

I have a chance to buy a 2005 RMK with no motor. Guy blew a piston, scored the cylinder and a slight scrtach on the crank. Looks like it would need a major rebuild or new motor. Pretty much stock, no upgrade can, pipe, shocks, etc. It had 1600 miles when it blew. The rest looks in mint condition. No rips on the seat, no cracks on the plastic, tunnel is straight. He wants $1400. Should I go for it?

The price is "fair" but you will be into it for what it is worth in the end BUT you will know it is "right.

IMO... somewhere between $750 and $1250 would give you a better value.

In the sub $4K range, this sled will be hard to beat once finished.

You will need to get some other goodies to take it up to par... no need to go over board... mounts/clutching/gearing/bolts/intake/can/FTS-spring.

The cylinder can be repaired at Millennium plating

As for the bottom end...IMO...Get he Indy Specialty TM1 bottom end which will get you a new case, 32mm(updated size) crank with the triple bearing (better than a wide bearing in terms of lubrication)... IMO no need to "pin" or weld the crank. The TM1 also has a new fully blueprinted/balanced clutch setup for the top of the line 3211115 belt which is included as well as gaskets for the top end.

ONLY use the OEM Polaris pistons on the rebuild.

Thanks for all the advice. I think I am going to pass on this one. I offered the guy $1250 and he came back with the $1400. He started at $2200 which I knew was way high. Based on what I read on this site I thought $1000 would be fair but offered him $1250 since it was in pristine condition, except the engine. I have 3 other 2005 RMK 900 was looking for a fourth. Live in MN and need a couple of "extra" sleds for when friends come up and we go to Michigans UP. Not in a rush so I will wait until I can get a better "deal". BTW with some great advice from Monster715 just converted one of my 2005 RMK 900 for trail riding, 144 track, 1.3 lug track, Walker Evans clicker shocks, dragon spindles and a few other goodies.
