What's everyone using for race gas above 9000ft

Just wondering what everyone is using for RG Turbo's at high altitude. I was mixing 32 oz torco accelerator to 10 gallons of 91. With sled running rich I slowly went up on boost. At 9lbs(lots of fun :face-icon-small-hap) I got a ECU23 code for det. Its an 08 M8 BD RG turbo including EBC,AD box, intercooler, etc. I'm thinking about mixing Sunoco 112 with 91, or trying some Sunoco 98 unleaded race fuel. Any suggestions?

Thanks

how deep a day was it? Sometimes that'll increase octane need due to higher overall temps.

Odd that you got det at 9psi though, that seems low to me.

I don't ride as low as RE or spring creek much, but we run 1.5 gal to 2.5 gal of 114 or 116 to a tank for 10-15 psi, at 9 I run pump, which comes out to about 25-30% race. at RE I've run 13.5 psi on the 2.5 mix. I've got no intercooler, so I'd hope you could go a bit further than me.

With your accelerator only mixed at 32oz per 10 gallons you are only running at 102 octane, you need to mix it 32oz per 5 gallons and you will be up to 105 octane and have no issues with it.

Mixing 112 with pump gas will get you no where as well if you have a RG turbo you need to run race gas.

should be running around 105 octane IMO

The biggest issue is with the old wiring harness, BD has a free (to my understanding) wiring harness update. the old one was pulling to much power from the wrong places. With the new latest version of the ebc kits (new fuel system and wiring harness) they seem to run flawless.

Snow was deep, my hood was covered all day. Maybe intercooler was heating instead of cooling. Thats why I asked, I thought I had plenty of octane to be safe. Maybe something else is going on here, bad gas, loose det sensor, etc. I'm going to check everything again then try mixing some race fuel or running some straight 100ll.

Thanks for the help

Are you talking about the wiring harness that powers the EBC? I purchased an updated harness that powers the EBC, box, and turbo oil pump. Its a 2 plug that runs from the accessory behind the heat plate.
Thanks

If your updated on the EBC I would blame it on the interheater. I would throw it out and run without or put on a water to air intercooler. But a good fan and lots of venting should work better than what you have as long as it doesn't pull to much power. If under 12lbs I would run without.

running that intercooler without a fan is crazy, i tried it, did not work, only acting like a interheater and ate reeds:face-icon-small-sho...most folks dont use an intercooler anymore, and those who do have a fan

I would agree. I have a lot of venting, including bdx bumper vents, hood vents, side vents, headlight vents, gage vents, etc. But they were all plugged with snow, your right its just heating instead of cooling. I don't see how a fan would help that much either. Wouldn't it just pull more heat into the intercooler with everything plugged with snow and warm temps under the hood. Unless the intercooler is water cooled or I cut a hole in the hood to get snow on the cooler. It would be awesome to lose the weight of the intercooler.
How much boost are you running without the intercooler?

The fan on the cooler pulls air through, just like when the fan kicks on on a car when parked, its not moving but air is flowing across the fins and it cools.

If tuned right you can run as much boost as you want for a short time. On real long pulls I would not go above 10-12lbs with good fuel.

he's running at 9000 feet, there's no way he needs even 102 to run 9psi. At that alt people are running pump at that psi.

pump gas

I agree, run pump gas at that elevation for 9lbs. If i want to go up to 10-11lbs I'll run a 50/50 av gas/pump gas. 13lbs I do straight av gas. Works great

Which setup do you run? Why would you need 4 times the race gas than I need for the same psi?

what kind of charge temps are you non boondocker guys getting, particularly the cpc kit owners?
im just curious as to how well the intercooler with fan on the bd kit is working.
i have the intercooler with fan and when boondocking in and out of the trees at 8lbs,4500' the other day, snow was pretty heavy, and sticking to all my extra vents, the max charge temp i saw was 125 degrees .
this is my first turbo and it is very responsive.
im just curious on the other kits charge temps which dont run a cooler...

gotcha,
i was just curious, im wondering how efficient the bd cooler is, seems like its working well.
if i ride it for awhile and then pop the hood and just touch the cooler the bottom of it is ice cold, the top feels like room temperature.
going down the road or riding where im maintaining higher speeds through the trees the charge temps are usually under 100
oh ya, glad your still with us backcountry!
