Hi All,
My 2012 Switchback Assault was T-Boned and sustained Tunnel damage.
Mt. Valin (8).jpg
I'd rather not use a replacement from Polaris as it did not clear the snow that well, any suggestions on what to do?

Also, I now have the opportunity to change the setup for deeper snow, as I was using it in stock form 1.352 cobra, and would like to go to a deep lug.

What would you do?

Yah, that was my plan until they decided not to write it off! Now, it looks like I'll have to keep it since it's trade in value will drop.

What did they quote you for damages? I had the same problem. car accident kinked the tunnel of my '11 SB Assault last year. They wouldnt total it but they gave me $4500 to fix it. Ended up having the dealer get a new tunnel assembly and swap the whole sled over to that. You really don't have any other options unless you buy a VE tunnel or something and do the work yourself. Swap drivers and put a 146 under it.

I guess if it were me and I had to keep it, I'd see what it would take to put a VE Boondocker tunnel on it, get 2.86 drivers, and run a 146 track. All depends how much money you'll get from insurance i guess. I also don't know how it works with registering a sled with an aftermarket tunnel, do you pull the VIN off you're tunnel and have them put it on the new one? Probably something to check into...

Thanks for the info.
The initial quote from the dealer is $8800.00 (includes labour and tax)
I can't believe they wouldnt write it off for that amount?

146, Camo Extream, 2.86 pitch. That seems to be the set up to go with.

Anyone done this before? What shaft and drivers can I use?

$8800 doesnt total your sled!?!?! thats crazy. Then you should just take the $8800 from the insurance company, throw in another 2K and get a '13 Pro RMK. It'd be just like trading up except you're gettin a pretty good deal on trade in imo.

i thought anything over 50% of sled worth totals it... maybe i'm wrong :face-icon-small-con

Any way you can come out a head if you take the money, part out the rest of the sled and then snowcheck one of the 2013s???

I'd say let them total it, buy it back and then sell it to me?? You could keep a bunch of parts i wont need. I want to build a tube chassis boosted yami motor pro and just need the cosmetic stuff and the bulkhead ffor a jig.. Let me know if thats something you are interested in..

Fix that sukka.

Get one of Power Addiction Racing tunnel/board kits... get it pow coated in your choice of color... bump out your sled...

Bolt/rivet this on and go!!

Deeper lug...since you have a 2.52" pitch track... keep the stock drivers and go with the Backcountry 1.75" track if you ride a lot of trails or harder snow... or go with a Challenger 2" with the 2.52" pitch if you ride deeper stuff.

Really doesn't look like you NEED a new tunnel to me.

If it were me and were keeping the sled.
I would cut off the running boards, bang out that right side tunnel as straight as possible and put Skinz AirFrames on that beyotch.
The for a track I'd add the stock Polaris 2" or 2 1/8" track that's available on the Snow Checks, or International Models... Done deal. No changing drivers or any of that nonsense.

You could have about a $1200-1500 dollar fix and pocket the change. Easy math there IMO.

The 144x2 camoplast is the best all around track for that sled IMO. Also change gearing to 20/42.... I wouldn't be afraid to run that track on trails (with scratchers of course)

I agree that it can be fixed by either the dealer or yourself. Do what Ripsass or Mthorse said. If you want to keep it stock get a tunnel and swap it over. If not get airframes, the tunnel brace from AKSnowrider, a 144 track and drivers and cut and paste. Add scratchers for your trail riding if you have heat issues. This will take a little time but save you big $.

My evil twin however says....
Keep the $ and If you do this you can have a sled to ride in a week or two so you can keep it going this year. Then buy a 13 with the a little more $ added to the pot. If you like the 13 sell the 12 for some profit. If you do not like the 13 sell it and you have cash in hand for a 14, that is the one that will have a track that flexes in half (8" wide) and hyperflex skid that has 7 degrees of swing to let you sidehill a log hanging over a 1000 ft cliff with 165HP and boost all of this in 165 pound stock package. This mind you will all be needed to keep up with the new Doo XM!

Wow!
Great info guys, thnks alot!
This is gonna help me decide what to do.

Small dent in the muffler, chaincase cracked, side panels cracked, brake rotor bent, and battery mounts bent to ****. Unfortunatly I dont have any other pics of the damage, and the sled is at my dealer.

Thanks for your suggestions!

Chaincase - Ebay

Rotor - Ebay

Can - SLP

Get the rest of the stuff on Partspitstop.com, ebay, or dealer. I'd get the WRP Tunnel stiffeners and the WRP Wide Boards and just fix it. Be into it about $1500. Then either sell the 12 and make $7300 from the insurance and then the value of the fixed sled and buy a 13 or keep the fixed 12 and pocket the cash. Don't say you dont like Skidoo guys either! :)

Nice. Thanks for the info!
No issues with skidoo guys, I even ride with one! Haha!

Looks like the tunnel is still straight on it. I would fix it as the others pointed out. I would personally put the B&M boards on it, and do any other mods you have been wanting and ride that sucker. Jesse.

If you aren't into fixing it, and they'll give you a check for $8,800.....I would just part out the rest and snowcheck a new one? Motor and clutches alone are worth a big chunk.....
