The exhaust valve will rock back and forth and actually wear the cylinder enough that the corner of the valve can catch the piston, usually on higher mileage motors. We just ground down the corner of the valves some and threw in a new set of pistons.

I just had the same issue...less severe. 09 but with lower miles...only 600 or so (or so I was told).

I had a 2007 turboed D7 and I had this happen at 2400 miles. I have not been into a suzuki 800 but on my polaris I just put another gasket under the valve housing and It worked good.

Had it happen on my 2012 Proclimb. Dealer figures i was carbon build up on exhaust valves.

The exhaust valve seal can get push inward and this can cause contact..
I would suggest checking the seal to make sure that it has not moved or has failed..
