I see this stuff all the time here in the GL's. It's common with current, low water levels, shore ice has a tendency to get bad as water goes in and out. People park their trucks near the shore and seem to frequently drop wheels in.

Don't judge too quick. It could have been a case of " Hold my beer and watch this".

I'm guilty of that.

..Besides, any ice fisherman knows that you CANNOT participate in any ice fishing activity without alcohol being involved. (Read the fine print in your regs).

I would have been real funny if he had made it through but destroyed the ice
behind him, since this finger led into a slough with no other way out for a
wheeled vehicle.

Should be able to get that out with a sno-bunji. I did that once when I was a kid. A buddy and I saw some lights out in the muskeg and decided to investigate. It turned out that it was 2 snomobiles parked side by side. One of them was stuck on a little tree. We almost made it out before we dropped through the muskeg. We went and got another buddy and he drove out to pull us out. After getting us unstuck, he dropped through the muskeg. We seesawed back and forth for about 300 yards until we got back to the road. Made for a long night and a lot of beer.
