We ran many of those back in the old days.
1. Dump the pipes and get a 1989-93 stock single. turbos like ower rpm power curves for good holeshots and on off throttle.
2.An aero in the 53 frame is ok but need to be the biggest of the 53 frame to be worth it. Garrets in the 26 range are good too.
3. stock port Timing is best for these
4. reshape heads to a 11 to 1 compression with .070-.080 squish
5. 8 psi boost = 145-150hp on those, 18 psi was 200 hp 8300-8600.
6. big bored 650 cylinders to 72mm ( 650 cyls could easily go to 72mm without sleeving, I ran many of these for years at 21 psi boost on race fuel making 260+ hp).
7. use wisecos NOT stock as you are in a learning curve and forged psitons do relativly NO damage to the turbo in a burndown or deto, Cast will break and send pieces thru the turbo, forged will turn to powder as it burns and just make a mess .
8. Crank MUST be trued and welded .
9. Do not use the oem fuel pump PERIOD> use an electric from msd and the mallory regulator.
10. the stock running board collers get NO where near enough snow to cool this and you will need a tunnel cooler.
11. torque arm for engine.
triples love turbos, for every exhaust pahse opening there is another cylinder waiting for the return pulse provided.
triple pipes on triple turbos make for more exhaust voulme than cylinder volume , this requires NOTHIN MORE than a compressor that is larger to correct the imbalance.
been there done that then they wrote me out of the rules..LOL!!
